[Rob] Portman Predicts: ‘I Think We Begin to Move Legislation Right Away’

If Republicans take control of the Senate and hold the House in Tuesday’s midterm election, they’ll get busy passing bills, says Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio).

First up—“very popular” legislation to fast-track the Keystone XL pipeline, Portman told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren on Monday evening. He called it “probably the biggest infrastructure project in America next year,” one that would create “20,000 to 40,000 new jobs.”

“Jobs, lower gas prices, energy independence—what’s wrong with that?” he asked. “Let’s just do it.”

Portman said Republican attempts to “do anything significant on Obamacare” probably would meet with a presidential veto, “but there are parts that we can probably change.”

“Jobs, lower gas prices, energy independence—what’s wrong with that?” he asked. “Let’s just do it.”

So Obama is going to allow the GOP to pass legislation concerning "Jobs, lower gas prices, energy independence" but not anything where Obamacare is concerned?

Does anyone else see the dishonesty in that statement?

Yes. The House can defund it. They had that power before this election and chose to cede that power to the executive branch.

Unless they have the numbers to override veto it will be business as usual.

I've begging for that for years ... just frikkin' DO it !

Start laying the pipeline through every county and borough that approved it ... if the feds come to stop it ... stop THEM.

I've lost my favorite snack (California almonds) because though a stand was made ... no one fought to the death ... so family farms, families, wealth, crops, communities ... all died instead

POSTERITY ... that's the word no one is taught and understands

Obamacare should be first out of the box. Then work on the IRS, EPA....

I fear this is just more talk and no action on the things we the people want.

You saying the GOP won’t take the Senate? and/or that Dingy Harry will switch parties and get the GOP to make him Senate leader again?

Won’t happen until the Repulsicans tar, feather, burn, bury, and hide the site of the Bonehead RINO slimeball.

And that won't ever happen. The GOP is already trumpeting this election victory as the death of the Tea Party movement and a mandate for the "moderate" approach of the liberal GOP leadership.

The GOP doesn't want Obamacare to go away, they just want to be the ones in charge of it so they can spend all that government cheese and control all those dumb little voters with it.

Nothing changes until the power changes hands, and that doesn’t happen just because there was an election. It isn’t called a lame duck session for nothing.

Only have to wait until January to say bye-bye to Reid, if the GOP does win the Senate. Obama being the obstructionist is of course another story.

They aren’t going to get Obamacare repealed with a Democrat President. But put Obama in a position where he has to veto the Keystone Pipeline, that will leave a mark. This approach makes sense, you have to pick your battles, and get ready for 2016.

Blah, blah blah.

Next year it will be about getting rid of the obstructionist Congress and President.

Nothing significant is going to be done. Because there is hardly anyone in DC who is “significant.”

A halfway decent leader would be able to take this country over by storm. We are so hungry for someone with an idea and some testes.

Yes. The House can defund it. They had that power before this election and chose to cede that power to the executive branch.

Instead they voted 50 times to repeal Obamacare knowing that the bill would die in the Senate. Now if the GOP takes the Senate then the House will neither vote to repeal or defund because they know that they would have to come up with an alternative.

Rob must have been absent from civics class when they taught “veto”.
