U.S. Justice Department officials are unlikely to bring civil rights charges against a white Ferguson, Missouri, police officer who shot black teenager Michael Brown, reports suggest.
The Washington Post said investigators had all but concluded there was not a sufficiently strong case to prove Darren Wilson violated the rights of the 18-year-old when he killed him on August 9.
At issue is whether Wilson had reason to believe he was in danger in his confrontation with Brown after he had asked the youngster to get out of the middle of a street.

It wouldn’t shock me if they released the decision on Thanksgiving week...say around noon on Wednesday. The crowd burns down half the stores in town on Wed and Thur, then sit there on Friday and wonder why everything in town is shut-down.

Maybe. But there’s this odd problem...fed money won’t build a Dollar-General store, Wal-Mart, gas-station or video-rental shop. Fed money only builds baseball fields, basketball courts, community centers and libraries/schools. If you wanted jobs...the fed input of money does absolutely nothing. Even if the feds came with road money and repaved every road in town...it’d likely be out-of-state guys on the paving crew, and you would sitting there with a nice blacktop road through the town, and zero commerce attraction.
In my hometown where I grew up...they found some guy who knew the grant game, and he put in various grant papers with the state and federal guys for a park. It’s a town of 250 people. They were able to get some guarantee of $20,000 via state and federal folks....if the town matched ten-percent of that. They held a fish-fry and car-wash, thus getting the $2,000 necessary. The park is mostly worthless nine months out of the year, but the town has a couple of bar-b-q’s in the summer and make some minor use of the park. I’m not against these stupid community projects if there is some payback to the folks who put the money into the system anyway....but usually, payback is marginal.
I am not entirely sure a riot just before Labor Day is a good way to pump up Democratic turnout, especially if precipitated by a decision not to file charges by a Democratic administration.
Could have exactly the opposite effect.
Wasn’t Brown unarmed? Every f’ing news story led with that line.
