Police: Pub dispute takes deadly turn for local deputies (NM Santa Fe Sheriff shooting)
Santa Fe New Mexican ^ | October 28, 2014 | Uriel Garcia and Chris Quintana

It’s a mundane assignment, transporting a prisoner to another state. Some deputies consider it a perk, a break from the everyday stress of police work.

But for two bright, young Santa Fe County sheriff’s deputies with unblemished records, the assignment turned deadly early Tuesday morning. The deputies, Tai Chan and Jeremy Martin, had stopped to spend the night at a Las Cruces hotel, then went for a drink at a pub near the New Mexico State University campus.

According to police reports, an argument that started at the pub continued back at the hotel, and shortly after midnight, Chan fired several shots at Martin as he fled the room they were sharing and ran toward the elevator. Martin was struck multiple times in the back and arms, and was pronounced dead at MountainView Regional Medical Center.

Chan, 27, a warrant officer for the sheriff’s office, has been charged with an open count of murder in connection with the episode and is being held at the Doña Ana County jail without bond, the Las Cruces Police Department said.

Details about what the officers were arguing about and what sparked the shooting have not been released. Martin, 29, was a married father of three young children with a fourth on the way.

Lengthy article that gives a lot more information than the previous one posted. One or both had been drinking heavily, began arguing at the pub, and then back at the hotel room where the shooting began.

The 911 audio recordings show the Dona Ana County dispatch operator responses leave something to be desired.

I think I’ll just go ahead and solve this. Drunk killer busts a gay move on fellow cop. Guy laughs at him, says he’s gonna tell everyone, or says something disgusted about him.
Killer goes for the gun to shut him up.

Well, if a fellow cop shot him it must have been justified...

Faggotry...only this can explain the secrecy. Not even the bar employees will say what it was about. You can bet it wasn’t about the best course of action for the Tea party. I’m just sayin’.

Very possible. Wife Sarah Martin told KOAT-7 that she and Jeremy had meet as teenagers who were in the same church group in Arizona. A conservative Christian in Santa Fe is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. The city, with an openly homosexual mayor, is locally known as "San Francisco East" for obvious reasons.

If they were drinking Miller Lite, then we know what the argument was about.
