As Wichitas Koch family has learned the hard way, the surest way to make mortal enemies in contemporary America is to build a hugely successful business, stick to your principles, and care about the future of your country.
A bantam-weight among those enemies is The Kansas City Star. Not above the occasional rabbit punch, Star editors jabbed away with a recent story headlined, Conservative Koch group launches TV ad attacking Orman in Kansas Senate race.
Never mind that the Kochs are libertarians, not conservatives. What intrigues about the story is that hundreds of groups run ads every campaign season. To single out just one sponsor by name when that sponsor is running perfectly legal ads in its own state suggests something deeper than a bias. It suggests a disease, specifically KDSKoch Derangement Syndrome.
Among those afflicted is self-styled environmentalist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The day before The Star articlea coincidence?he, too, singled out the Kochs, this time for questioning the agenda of that days million-madman climate march in New York. They are enjoying making themselves billionaire by impoverishing the rest of us, ranted Kennedy. Do I think the Koch brothers should be tried for reckless endangerment? Absolutely.
One can forgive this aging dilettante for failing to understand free enterprise. His buccaneer grandfather swindled his billions. But RFK 2.0 should understand the family history well enough to know that granddad bought the presidency for Uncle Jack. His wish to imprison a couple of honest billionaires for their above-board involvement in politics suggests that KDS, like syphilis, rots the brain.
A recent biography about the Koch dynasty, Daniel Schulmans Sons of Wichita, makes some sense of the derangement. Schulman, who writes for the leftist Mother Jones, had to disappoint KDS sufferers with this surprisingly fair-minded book.

This is what I never understand. Why are the Koch brothers evil, but someone like George Soros is ok??
If liberals are to be intellectually honest, about their concerns about big money in politics and buying elections and all that, then they have to condemn the likes of George Soros who pour so much money into politics in support of liberals.
Or is the answer that liberals are not intellectually honest, and count on low information type voters to never ask these types of questions???
They have a test for that now:

The Koch Bros give $100 MM to a hospital wing. Tom Snyder or whomever he is gives $100 MM for global warming mitigation. Man, are they evil!
Just typical democrat hypocrisy.
In Michigan auto company heiress and part III of the Dingell dynasty is running against republican UAW factory worker Terry Bowman. The left claims Bowman is a big party GOP pawn and Dingell just cares about the little people.
You can’t fix that kind of stupid.
It’s weird, because I thought George Soros controlled everything ala Wizard of Oz.
This stuff is just so much idiocy.
We have a 17 trillion dollar and very diversified economy.
How much of that can they possibly influence and census of stakeholders, as well customers?
Exactly right. Look back over the years:
LBJ (yes he was a Democrat, but hated by the far left who is now in power)
Nixon
Reagan
Dan Quayle
George Bush
Cheney
Sarah Palin
Koch Brothers
All of the above took their turns at the liberal whipping post. The years covered are virtually continuous, and often overlapping.
The Kennedys are well acquainted with both ailments.
Communist tactic of always keeping an enemy handy to keep anger focused elsewhere.
KS newspapers hate the Koch brothers and Americans For Prosperity, and demonize them constantly. They love to print letters from leftists blaming the Koch brothers for everything from global warming to the price of hamburger. Some of these letters are amusing, but some would worry a psychiatrist.
They are enjoying making themselves billionaire by impoverishing the rest of us,
Says the trust fund baby who hasn’t produced anything in his life.
The dem political strategy is very simple:
Evil, stupid, or weird.
Lets look at last year’s GOP field:
Herman Cain - evil: sexual harassment
Michelle Bachman - stupid, because...well because the media said she was
Rick Santorum - weird: too religious
And you can take just about any prominent GOP candidate, and this applies.
The trust fund that RFK Jr. lives off of was made by grandpa Joe running booze during Prohibition. Talk about ill gotten gains.
This Koch brother stuff is getting out of hand, every add on TV mentions them as Satan’s sons. The Left has lost their minds.
Could the average leftist:
- Recognize a Koch Brother in a photo line-up
- Name a Koch Brother by first name
- Identify what state the Kochs do business in
- State what business sector the Kochs are in
Most couldn’t.
They don’t even know the who/what/when/why/where they should hate them....they just know they are supposed to hate them.
I’ve always thought that the Kochs should expand their businesses to include the media, especially McClatchy—(which owns the KC Star)as kind of a “loss leader” business.

If liberals are to be intellectually honest...)
What I discovered after debating liberals is that many of them are not intellectually honest, and they KNOW it! They are such partisans that just like Muslims, they feel it’s ok to lie as long as it’s for the cause. The result is they don’t feel one least bit bad about their intellectual dishonesty.
