More than 5,000 additional health care workers are needed to fight Ebola in the three most affected countries in West Africa, the president of the World Bank said Tuesday.

Dlamini-Zuma said African Union states have pledged to send more than 2,000 health care workers into West Africa. She did not say when the workers would arrive.

"The disease, which is not new to the world, and its manifestations in these countries, has caught us by surprise. With the wisdom of hindsight, our responses at all levels — continental, global and national — were slow, and often knee-jerk reactions that did not always help the situation," Dlamini-Zuma said.

Yeah, me too. Because I just saw another article that said 230 doctors have died. Why would anyone want to go there?

We are SO overloaded with idiot requests and actions.

Travel back in time with me to when America was a huge farm ....

How much do you think we'd be paying attention to the problems of the world ?

Jefferson knew about islam .. and desired to kill 'em .. or keep them away ... we were busy being a young country

What?

Did we actually grow up and become too big for our britches ?

I say ... let them get their 5000 from the uninfected areas of Africa

It appears as though the “Doctors w/o Borders” crowd are running like hell to get back inside the safety of the U.S. borders.

Always remember that the people currently in charge of solving the ebola crisis also believe in, and are pushing, the global warming scam. I do not believe anything they say.

A golden opportunity for FR's own ex-spurts to shut up and actually do something useful!

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(hat tip to: fivecatsandadog!)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I just don’t understand this. Our CDC, NIH, expert politicians and all these selfless healthcare volunteers are telling us “how HARD it is to catch Ebola.”

Tell me about it, I use to work in health care in the early to mid 1980s during the AIDS plague and there is definitely a run for your live mentality when it comes to stuff like this. I remember nurses and even doctors refusing to have anything to do with patients with full blown AIDs, even housekeeping so the patients rooms would be filthy and they would be crying for help and nobody would help them. I was just a volunteer, but man what an eye opener that was. I remember one nurse calling a patient a fag because he wouldn’t shut up and it was later found he got AIDs because he was a drug addict. So the guy is slowly dying in agony and the only help he was getting was this nurse is calling him a fag, real nice. That was Flushing hospital in Flushing Queens New York city if anybody wants to know.

Yeah, something's not right. Just to clarify - on the other article that says 230 doctors have died, apparently Forbes says that's "doctors, nurses and other health care workers". Still that's a huge amount when they are wearing PPE and still getting it. And consider those are the one that died, double that for the ones that contracted Ebola.

No, they do not need all of these health workers. What they need is a state of semi-martial law, with strict quarantine rules.

If an individual is stick, they stay in their home, and quarantine signs are posted on their home, with a start and end date. If they leave their home, they can be shot.

Likewise, area quarantines are surrounded, and though people can enter, they usually do so to leave supplies in a buffer area that are picked up later by the quarantined. But if outsiders venture in to the quarantine area, they become part of the quarantine. And if those within attempt to leave, they can be shot.

Get them from east Africa, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Afghanistan, it is time they ponied up. I wish we had leaders that had the sand to tell them not this time.

I don’t know how many they will actually produce, but one of the American Army’s goals are to train 500 medical helpers per week for them.

It’s sad there aren’t any people in Africa OTHER than those with Ebola. It’s must be that way other wise they would take care of their own damn people....
