Ebola quarantine policies spread, despite science
Seattle Times ^ | 10/27/2014 | David Porter

Despite President Barack Obama's appointment of an "Ebola czar" to oversee and coordinate the U.S. response to the deadly outbreak, some politicians and even an Army general are going against White House guidance, submitting people to the kinds of quarantines that scientists warn could make containing the epidemic more difficult.

Obama said any measures involving health care workers "should be crafted so as not to unnecessarily discourage those workers from serving." U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power, now in West Africa, said any returning workers should be "treated like conquering heroes and not stigmatized for the tremendous work that they have done."

Instead, a nurse who volunteered in Africa with Doctors Without Borders was forced to spend her weekend in a tent in New Jersey, despite having no symptoms other than a slightly elevated temperature she blamed on "inhumane" treatment at Newark International Airport. And now in Italy, a U.S. Army commander said he and his troops returning from Liberia will remain in isolation for 21 days.

Maj. Gen. Darryl Williams told The Associated Press on Monday that the decision to isolate returning troops was taken to ensure their family members' comfort, even though he none of them are showing symptoms, and he does not believe any soldier under his command is at risk of infection.

Personally, I think quarantining is for its part, good science.

DESPITE???

No propaganda here, no siree!

Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......

(hat tip to: fivecatsandadog!)

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Wow, we really have gone full 1984.

This just defies any logic. It is like getting on the news night after night and declaring "rain is not wet".

How are people going to be forced to care about the ebola epidemic if it’s not here in America, too?

How are straight people going to be forced to care about AIDS if only homosexuals are subject to it?

How do we force people to care about pollution if global warming is falsified?

“forcing people to care” is the driving motivation.

If the “science” says there is no reason to quarantine — then why are GIs going to be held in quarantine when the return form West Africa?

The reason is giving in the above article:

EXCERPT:

Maj. Gen. Darryl Williams told The Associated Press that the decision to isolate returning troops was taken to ensure their family members’ comfort, even though he none are showing symptoms, and he does not believe any soldier under his command is at risk.

Speaking by telephone from a U.S. base in Vicenza, Italy, Williams said he and his soldiers will be living in isolation under controlled monitoring during the three weeks it takes to be sure Ebola hasn’t infected them. Williams returned to Italy Sunday with 10 soldiers with another 65 due back in two groups by Saturday.

It’s just “normal concern,” Williams said. “There was nothing elevated that triggered this increased posture.”

“..., said any returning workers should be “treated like conquering heroes ...”

So she wants people to spit on her, refuse to hire her, cut her pay, and deny her proper health care ?

Ebola quarantine policies spread, despite science

The typical false god of progressives is the "belief" in science. They know nothing of the scientific method. Their scientific knowledge is limited at best and yet they think their belief is sufficient.

When I see the term "despite science" I know the author is scientifically illiterate. Science to them is the philosophy of scientific progressivism. Scientific progressivism is just another new term for marxist dialectic materialism.

Oh goody another "settled science" issue.

This settled science, as a reminder, had said through obummers mouth, the ebola would never find it's way to our shores.

Other aspects of this settled science come from the CDC with ever changing directives on protective clothing measures, variations in quarantine recommendations and now, the revelation that sweat on bus seats can in fact, give people riding next to an infected person, ebola...Even on a bus where the chosen one ridiculed us for even thinking this could happen.

I'm glad the Seattle astonisher can be so sure this science is settled.

And as we all know, Obama is all about truth and science.

And if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor.

Because Science.

Science? Science is an infected doc on the loose in NYC. The meaning of the word “science” is completely politicized with these berks.

SO ... what “science” is the military following when they impose a 21 day quarantine on their troops? After all, we’re told the soldiers have no contact with the population yet they get quarantined.

But the docs who are up to their facemasks in patient’s bodily fluids? Go have a bowl of soup. Take the subway. Bowl your brains out. And don’t worry about the first few days of discomfort, live it up and wait for the fever to spike.

THAT SCIENCE???

Doctors Without Borders does incredibly important work. Their doctors and nurses face conditions that would make any sensible person cringe, often working in war zones, sometimes even with guns pointed at them as they treat war wounded from a less than civilized side in these wars. Many of their people are conservative Christians (and many are liberal do-gooders), but I would not generalize from one entitled, clueless nurse to all MSF medical staff.

Libs are pack animals ...and seem to proceed single file..

With their heads, not up their own asses, but with their head up the ass of the guy in front of him...

Moving like one giant snaking locked conga-line of lemming , led by the head lemming, over the nearest cliff

If I visit Guatemala and want to bring back a stray dog, it has to spend six weeks in isolation quarantine in order to prevent any diseases from entering the US. The same with plant stocks like grapes, citrus, etc.....

Hell, you can't even send certain plants across state lines.

Yep. The translation from lib speak to normal speak is most often to simply invert the meaning of what is said.
