One of those damned lever-action machine guns.

That’s like saying “McQueen wasn’t driving a Cougar, that was a Mustang.”

Sort of. The '92 was chambered in pistol cartridges to compliment the sidearms of the day. The '94 is chambered in rifle cartridges for big game.

I’ve been calling the lever-action “the original assault rifle” for at least a decade.

I’ll paraphrase an old statement attributed to Beria:

The press says: show me the weapon used, and I will show you an assault weapon.

Obviously, American gun culture (specifically cowboy action shooting) is at fault. Somebody declare SASS a terrorist organization.

All firearms are assault or defensive by definition. Depends who the aggressor is. Defense of freedom. Assault on freedom.

No. It means that it was not nearly as serious that the soldier died. He’s not as dead as he would have been were he shot by Marlin .22 LR rifle with a pistol grip.

[Could someone please tell me how a weapon of any sort is NOT an ASSAULT WEAPON?]

Exactly right on the nose correct. A 2x4 in the hands of an attacker sure as hell seems to me to be a weapon used in an assault.

Taurus makes 92 series in 357mag and 44mag. The 357mag is as good as an M1 Carbine with the 18” barrel.

No wonder they no longer make this toy I fondly recall from my youth.

Years ago Neal Knox found California had added the Winchester lever action rifles to those “to be banned”.

They later removed them from the list of those to be banned.

In other news, 113 years ago Harry Tracy stacked up dead lawmen using a 30-30 rifle. Since that rifle is not as deadly as modern “assault rifles” we can conclude that those dead lawmen were not as dead as if they had been murdered with a .223 rifle.

Wonder if he used Canadian Industries Limited (CIL) ammo. I still have some I bought 44 years ago.

**Turkish Winchester repeaters**

Not bad for a .44 Henry rimfire. However, the Turkish garrison later surrendered after being starved out.

Not only could his rifle fire quickly but could fire more bullets then it could hold. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IVCwYPjFXc

Lucas also killed 109 people in 5 seasons with that rifle.

...Hollywood studios purchased the '92 in quantity because it was in regular production (until World War II) but looked sufficiently like Old West Winchesters to substitute for valuable antiques, and because in calibers .44-40 and .38-40 it could fire, together with the Colt Single Action Army "Peacemaker" revolver, the standard Five-in-One blank cartridge. This latter practice mirrored the real cowboys, who found it convenient to carry a rifle and a revolver chambered with the same ammunition. --quoted from Wikipedia
