Another U.S. Ebola Patient Recovers at Emory
NBC News ^ | 10/20/2014 | Maggie Fox

Posted on 10/20/2014 2:41:25 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

An American doctor infected with Ebola in Sierra Leone last month has gone quietly home after spending six weeks at Emory University’s special biocontainment unit, the hospital said Monday. The doctor, who has asked not to be named for now, was working for the World Health Organization when he was infected.

His treatment and recovery hasn’t been covered wall to wall like the other Ebola patients, who include medical missionaries Dr. Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol, both treated at Emory, and Dr. Rick Sacra and NBC cameraman Ashoka Mukpo, both treated at Nebraska Medical Center. Emory’s also treating Dallas nurse Amber Vinson, infected while treating the only U.S. Ebola patient to have died, Thomas Eric Duncan. A second nurse infected while treating Duncan, Nina Pham, is in a special unit at the National Institutes of Health outside Washington, D.C.

“In coordination with the CDC and Georgia Department of Public Health, the patient was determined to be free of virus and to pose no public health threat. The patient has asked to remain anonymous and left the hospital for an undisclosed location. He will make a statement at a later date,” Emory said in a statement.

"As a result of the virus, my condition worsened and I became critically ill soon after I arrived at Emory. Through rigorous medical treatment, skillful nursing, and the full support of a health-care team, I am well on the way to a full recovery,” the patient said in a statement issued last week.

"I want the public to know that although Ebola is a serious, complex disease, it is possible to recover and return to a healthy life. I wish to retain my anonymity for now, but I anticipate sharing more information in future weeks as I complete my recovery.”

Not sure how many Ebola patients Emory has treated, but thus far, based on the news, they’re batting 100%.

This morning FOX reportated that Nina Pham’s boyfriend had been hospitalized showing symptoms of Ebola but now I can’t find any news that I trust on it.

I wonder if this ebola stuff has anything to do with the Benghazi hearings or the IRS scandal? Or maybe the VA scandal?

They are doing a magnificent job! I was at Emory about two hours ago, hoping to see one of the two main doctors working with the Ebola patients. The admin assistant said that they were “swamped” at the moment (which I expected ), so I left my paperwork with her.

Dr.Bruce Ribner, one of the doctors, has a great video clip synopsis of the talk he gave at ID2014 conference, on the Helio.com website. The Emory tram has learned quite a lot about how to treat Ebola patients!

Yes, it keeps everyone from talking about the scandals.

What about Vinson? Why no info?

This is confusing, as I thought there were just the initial doctor and aid worker from Samaratin’s Purse, then the lying Liberian, then the cameraman, plus the two nurses who worked on the non-American Liberian.

Are there cases now that we’re not hearing about? What’s up with that?

Seems his treatment and recovery haven’t “been covered wall to wall” because nobody knew of this case....at least I hadn’t, and I thought I kept up on the news.

From a PR standpoint, an anonymous individual expressing such newsworthy sentiments regarding the efficacy and effectiveness of his treatment and recovery would be extremely, extremely helpful along about now.

Heard anything lately about the un-named doctor who was being treated at Bethesda? Nope, and you’re not going to.

Notice how the beds at Ft. Detrick has been dropped from the news. Smells like they’re going to save those for military use only.
