Social conservatives are making a last-ditch effort to stop Republicans who support gay marriage, looking to torpedo their campaigns ahead of next month’s elections.
But they don't just have 2014 in their sights — they’re already turning one eye to 2016, with the goal of defeating pro-gay marriage Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio).
The National Organization for Marriage is making robocalls attacking a trio of socially liberal Republicans, including a pair of openly gay House candidates, California’s Carl DeMaio and Massachusetts’ Richard Tisei, plus Oregon Senate nominee Monica Wehby, who supports same-sex marriage.
The organization is also openly discussing ways to challenge Portman, who endorsed gay marriage last year, after his some came out as gay, either in his Senate reelection bid or if he runs for president.
The organization is aiming to stop socially liberal Republicans from winning office, even if that means electing Democrats who disagree with them on everything. What’s less clear is whether it could have much of an impact.
“These three candidates, Carl DeMaio, Richard Tisei and Monica Wehby all stand against the party platform, and enough is enough. We've decided it's better to stand up and defeat Republicans who betrayed the party rather than walk lockstep for the party,” National Organization for Marriage President Brian Brown told The Hill. “It's far more damaging long term to have Republicans like Carl DeMaio in Congress trying to in his own words ‘redefine’ the Republican Party rather than accept a bad Democrat like [Rep.] Scott Peters.”

We have a homo marriage, gun grabbing, baby killing, tax and spend, all around a-hole running for governor here in Illinois......and that’s the “republican”.
And no, I will not vote for him.

There was a poll out yesterday, showing many potential GOP presidential candidate's current favorability ratings in Iowa. Portman was the only one underwater aside from Christie, though to be fair no one knows him (because he's dull).

Not if you see what his opponent is like.
As bad as Corbett is, Wolf is much worse. Based on the results of the poll in Post #5, the Republic is gone and we’re not likely to get it back any time soon.
I don’t think there’s much practical difference on the social issues of abortion or gay marriage between the two.
Corbett pulled out of the court fight and no doubt Wolf would have too if he had been governor.
On abortion, the PA Pro-Life Federation, which aligns itself with the GOP political machine (heck, they endorsed Jubuelirer and Brighbill after their pay raise fiasco calling them “Pro-Life” in the 2006 primary season when they were actually both on the other side) will tell everyone that Corbett is Pro-Life.
But from what I gather, the state health department is not enforcing the new abortion clinic regulation law passed after the Kermit Gosnell murder conviction for the horrors of his uninspected clinic in Philly.

I fully understand your position. My York political experiences come more from inside the belly of the late John Thompson Sr. GOP political machine.
That tends to put me against the Republican machine and its endorsed candidates more often than not.
Senator Scott Wagner identified a big problem in Harrisburg the other week when he wrote a letter calling on the “Republican” Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi to resign.
Pileggi holds up any meaningful reform in this state and has his pocket throroughly lined with union money......
I don’t know if Corbett pulled out of the court fight because of his personal beliefs, or because he was advised that it would be politically expedient to continue with the battle. If so, he got bad advice.
My experiences are there, too. Thompson did Appel’s bidding, which meant that the Republicans in the city were not supported, and wer often opposed. Thompson’s bitter enemy, Platts, was no better, supporting his buddy Brenner for mayor with the full weight of his formidable organization, even enlisting his volunteers to canvass in the city for Brenner.
