“That’s what the science tells us.”
Really?
Show me the results of that scientific experiment - or else you’re a LIAR.
This tells the real story.
With this guy at the head, we are up $hits Creek without a paddle.
Viruses mutate. The Reston Ebola strain was found to be airborne. A 1 micron size droplet from a sneeze or vomiting can stay airborne for many hours. The standard N95 surgical mask will not capture 1 micron droplets.
He is a flat out liar. On one of the news shows today the nurses union representative mentioned that Dr. Tom visited Africa recently and wore a fully self contained unit with a respirator.
“Projectile vomiting....explosive diarrhea”
I don’t care what disease they have, I’m wearing the full suit!
HF
“As I said, it is not impossible that some of the other workers who were exposed, as the nurse was exposed, will develop Ebola.”
Now try saying it without the double negative.
Aside from being "simple and wrong," quick fixes like isolation will make it even harder to get help into the countries that need it, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Tom Frieden told reporters on Thursday. All isolation will do, said Frieden, is "enable the disease to spread more widely" in the most affected countries, which will in turn create "more potential for it to spread elsewhere and become more of a problem."
Apparently wearing protective head gear will also "enable the disease to spread my widely", idiot!!!
Isolation in this case means "no one comes out until the epidemic is controlled". People can go in without breaking the isolation.
Frieden apparently can't understand one-way traffic. The man is embarrassingly stupid.
1) pigeon hole the VISA's2) establish a clinic in Africa, near an airport, where all outbound - to - the - USA fliers must enter and be processed
3) establish a set route using charter flights only between Africa (that clinic -and- airport) and the USA --- ie, if you want to fly to the USA, and you are from Africa and/or your VISA and/or passport place you as "from Africa" ... you have to adhere to (1), (2), and this, (3) ... or you cannot board the flight to the USA.
And, in general, there is a gross failure to make clear, the importance of personal hygiene, and that henceforth, you must not casually touch your head, anywhere without first washing your hands.
What we need, as much as a cure, is A RELIABLE QUICK-TEST FOR EBOLA.
Don’t be silly - the science is settled!

Egads! Just common sense.
What they have been doing has only spread the disease. They ARE doing something wrong!!!
Thanks for the ping!
Being a nit-picker, I have to correct this.
The pigs did not pass aerosolized Ebola virus to the monkeys. Pigs sneeze a lot because they do get a respiratory infection with Ebola. Sneezes contain enough large droplets that virus can be present in the droplets. The pigs were separated from the monkeys by 20 cm, which is less than a foot--they could certainly get close enough to sneeze directly on the monkeys. Plus, the pigs could also kick debris--which probably contained wet snot because they had runny noses--from their pen into the monkey cage. This experiment did NOT demonstrate aerosol transmission. Aerosols are small particles that dry quickly and travel a distance--Ebola is large, and is destroyed by drying.
I honestly do not know why people are so fixated by this idea that Ebola MUST be airborne, or that it is about to become airborne. Besides being physically almost impossible, the virus has no reason to become airborne since it infects and transmits just fine the way it is. I'm guessing that the fixation on airborne transmission is cultural memory--a remnant of the predominant belief that bad air causes diseases, which existed before we knew anything about germs and apparently still exists in some form.
