After a lengthy discussion with several public comments, the Steamboat Springs School Board voted Monday to make collective bargaining meetings open to the public, regardless of the outcome of Proposition 104.

If passed, Proposition 104 will require all meetings of school boards, or between district representatives and employee representatives at which a collective bargaining agreement is discussed, be public.
School districts in Colorado negotiate contracts annually, with bargaining in Steamboat Springs slated to begin in January or February 2015 for the following year's contract.
The board has discussed the possibility of making meetings public since last May, and Andrew said public meetings would offer the most transparency to staff and the public.
“We owe it to our staff,” Andrew said. “Transparency provides the ability to witness the process. Transparency is not a bad thing. I think that transparency will help retain staff.”
The SSEA president, a Uniserv consultant and members of the SSEA executive board urged the board Monday night not to make the decision for open meetings during a board meeting but rather during a collaborative bargaining team meeting

What generally happens is that the union hacks posing as school board members crossfile in both Democrat & Republican primaries and turn 100% of their people in a primary which is lucky to get a 20% turn over. On occasion, one or two of their slate of four doesn't win the Republican primary and has to compete in the general election. But they are still guaranteed the election of 2-3 of their union hacks who is supposed to be representing the district against the teacher's union.
Since the taxpayers are the ones that have to pay for public employees wages and benefits and the huge pension liabilities. The taxpayers should know what they have to pay for.
While this sounds great as far as openness and transparency are concerned, I guarantee you that it will not have the hoped-for results. Both sides will grandstand at the table, primarily addressing their comments to their “back audiences” (i.e. the board team will be posturing for the voters and parents, the union team for their members) instead of the “front audience” - the bargaining team sitting across the table from them. The actual dealing and horseracing will take place at clandestine meetings between the spokespersons or bargaining team subcommittees held at restaurant or taverns forty or fifty miles down the road from the school district.
Unions have been losing in the private sector. Now they are digging in on the government side.
Many fights now as the government Unions fear losing their money and power over school boards and such.
Then you arrest them for violation of the law.
Cool now they will have to have two meetings instead of one.
Secret meetings will determine what will be discussed at the rube meeting.
