“Silly” in that we went FROM something that was sustainable and renewable (wood) to a petrochemical product in the first place.

I'm all for saving rainforest and first growth redwood and the like, those kind of trees might well serve a purpose in keeping as much biological diversity as possible - which is IMHO important because so often scientific research ends up studying and using God's creation; more biodiversity more stuff to reverently use and learn from, but second growth and such forest is just a crop, albeit one with a multi year cycle. One that provided good jobs. Gee, what a surprise.
