For the record.....
I had some close contact with the local Liberian communities. They seem to be pretty hard working with jobs. Some came as refugees from the civil war and then their families followed.
I’m sure some are on welfare but the ones I dealt with all had jobs. Additionally, they did not mix and mingle with the local black community.
A cottage industry and the reason I was involved is going to garage sales. They go to garage sales and buy up clothing and stuff, especially bicycles. They pack it in plastic barrels or those super sacks and export it back to Liberia. They discovered there were large supplies of used tires to be bought for a song. Large quantities of used tires were shipped. Ditto remnents of various construction materials. They also liked old used Toyota pickups.
The stuff America discards is very valuable in Liberia. The result is very small businesses here and there engaged in the trade. It is a headache for the Liberian government because of complex import regulations
Sounds similar to what I've read about the Blacks from the tropical islands.
