Schools are closed the entire summer, even as very few children are needed to bring the family farm crops to harvest.
I remember growing up in east Texas (I'm talking about 1970's & 80's) and we had summer vacation to harvest, fall break to usually dig up potatoes and prepare the ground for the winter, and spring break to break the ground/start planting.
I would bet that 90% of school-aged students today have NO CLUE what I am talking about today!!

Homeschool! Even for 2-3 hours/day, you’re beating the schools. Best thing we did for our kids. You can teach them your religion, too.

But you are forgetting about all of the admin staff that don’t teach, the support staff, and all of the other positions that don’t teach at all but still get paid very well for “administering”.
