Pennington endorses Libertarian candidate for governor
The Daily Citizen (Dalton, Georgia) ^ | October 4, 2014 | Staff and Wire Reports

Former Dalton mayor David Pennington endorsed Andrew Hunt, the Libertarian Party candidate for governor, on Friday, calling him “the only true limited government candidate in the race.”

Pennington lost a bid to replace Gov. Nathan Deal as the Republican nominee in the May primary. Pennington said he wouldn’t tell anyone else how to vote but decided to back Hunt based on his approach to taxes and fiscal policy.

Hunt, the former CEO of an Atlanta nanotechnology firm, is in the race against Deal and Democrat Jason Carter.

“When Andrew came out for true tax reform — led by an income tax cut — as well as cutting spending and tort and malpractice reform, it was obvious he was the only true limited government candidate in the race,” Pennington said.

In a September appearance before the Dalton Tea Party, Hunt said if elected he would work to cut the state income tax to 4 percent from 6 percent while eliminating various loopholes. He said he would also look at ways to cut the sales tax rate.

I've seen Hunt speak once, and he really emphasized that Georgia requires more than 50 percent to win, so people can vote for him to send a message to the GOP they are unhappy, then vote for Deal in the runoff.

The amusements of old age ... I read “Pennington” as “Pentagon”.

How do you think he’ll do? I know Deal is not a true Republican that Georgia deserves.

It’s hard to tell. I don’t get the sense that many people beyond the Chamber of Commerce really like Deal.

Libertarians in Georgia typically get 2 or 3 percent of the vote, but I believe there was a public safety commission candidate a couple of years ago who got well into the double digits when there was only one other candidate on the ballot.

I think Hunt has talked about getting 5 percent of the vote. That wouldn’t surprise me, and again, the one time I saw him speak he really emphasized Georgia’s runoff system, telling people they could vote for him in the general election and for Deal in the runoff.

If you read the libertarian goals for America as listed in their platform, you would not be supporting them, at least pro-life, conservatives would not.

From full term abortion, to truly open borders with no Border Patrol or INS, to gay marriage and adoption, and homosexualizing the military, and more, they make some liberals blush at how radical leftist it is.

You need to read the original poster’s comment, and just generally educate yourself on how the Georgia election system works.

I thought GA had recently scrapped its rule that general elections produce a majority winner.

No, a candidate has to receive at least 50 percent plus one vote to win.

He is just a Loser, period. Gingrey is stepping down immediately after losing his re-election nomination bid, too. Funny thing, many of gingteys rabid supporters are saying they will stay home because their candidate didn’t make it against Perdue. That’ll teach us to vote with the established do nothing elites, won’t it?
