The secret service was part of the Treasury Department but got moved to DHS in 2003. I suspect they used to have higher standards than they do now.

There are reports that the guards were sandbagginbg the head of security, and if that isn’t deliberate underperformance, I’ll eat my hat.
This one is sort of a mixed bag. Obama is by no means a security expert, and good experts don't do a half-baked job without first informing the client of the risks. In the case of the president, I do believe that are situations where the security personnel in fact order him around.
Why, she asked, wasn’t he being better protected by his Secret Service agents?
Has anything happened to the President? No? Then I would suggest he is being protected just fine..
There is only one legitimate answer to the WHY...

The only thing the secret service did wrong, like a few others in his admin, is putting their incompetence on display, so they will be replaced by other incompetents, with one admonition “don’t get caught”!

I choose to believe the SS just no longer gives a damn about the incompetent corrupt scoundrel that is the President.

I would imagine that Secret Service mess-ups have happened in every administration, it is run by people and we make mistakes. I also imagine that every other administration dealt with it quietly.
And politicians have been lying through their teeth about ‘chance meetings’ with ‘commoners’ for aeons.

We’re getting a repeat of 2009 when the dems started a talking points campaign of the racist right wing extremist wanted to assassinate the president and the “Bush” Secret Service was chock a block full of racist that wanted to see the president assassinated.
Howard Dean had a slip of the tongue and let it be know this talking points campaign of republicans wanting to assassinate the president was a repeat of what the dems had done during the Clinton years.
In 1994-1995 the Clintons/dems started a talking points campaign that the racist right wing extremist wanted to assassinate the president.
Bill Clinton made a trip to the Philippines where Terry Nichols of OKC bombing fame had been visiting and low and behold the was an assassination plot against Bill Clinton.
In 2009 after Howard Dean let it be known the dems were doing a repeat of 1994-95, Hillary took a trip overseas and low and behold there was an assassination plot against Hillary.
Following the alleged assassination plot against Bill Clinton we had the “right wing extremist” OKC bombing.
Following the 2009 alleged assassination plot against Hillary Clinton we had the attempted car bombing in NYC which they tried to blame on the right wing extremist TEA Party.
At some point you have to stop writing off events that keep repeating themselves as “just a coincidence”.

Question...Why do you still have liberal friends......this is always their reaction to everything!!! Not saying there is anything wrong with it.....but it certainly gets tiresome.
LIBs are insufferable. They make me sick. They are some weird combination of mentally ill and logic-deficient.
Obama’s administration is full of incompetents. He has nominated some of the most liberal unqualified incompetents to head important positions in government. People with no knowledge and experience in their area of responsibility, only political allegiance to the party, race, and the liberal agenda.
These incompetents in turn have staffed key positions in their agencies with similar party members of a preferred race and agenda. Politics and race are the most important qualifications, not experience and knowledge.
The chain of command is also a problem. The fact nobody knows who is responsible for what and to whom and you have the complete dysfunctional mess that is the Obama administration. I see nobody with the knowledge and experience to make the right decisions at the right times, especially under pressure.
You see controversial issues develop across the administration again and again like the IRS (Tea Party), state department (Benghazi),etc. I don’t have time to list them all. It’s no wonder the rank and file workers have such low morale and other issues. Why would the Secret Service be an exception?.
