Yes, its come to this. In a society where any and all things can, and probably will be considered racist at any, if not all, times comes news that one of Americas all-time favorite cartoon shows is now considered racist.
The Amazon Prime video streaming service now carries a warning label, a disclaimer, that declares that Tom and Jerry, the 75-year-old slapstick cartoon, contains some ethnic and racial prejudices that were once commonplace in American society.
The Amazon disclaimer continues, claiming that characters like Mammy Two Shoes, a black maid that appears in some episodes were wrong then and are wrong today.
Tom and Jerry has won seven Academy Awards.
Nevertheless, in a sign of political-correctness run amok, Tom and Jerry: The Complete Second Volume carries the following words of caution:
Tom and Jerry shorts may depict some ethnic and racial prejudices that were once commonplace in American society. Such depictions were wrong then and are wrong today.
Even in the ultra-politically U.K., the warning is receiving criticism, and Frank Furedi, a former Professor of Sociology at the University of Kent in Canterbury, saying that, These warnings caricature and misinterpret what 40-year-old cartoons communicated. Amazons warnings are in-fact a performance of false piety.
When news broke about the warning label, many people on Twitter were astounded and even enraged at the new heights of political-correctness that have been reached:

They featured Asians, Latinos, American Indians, people who were obviously not Jewish. These were among the most clever ad campaigns in the history of marketing. Or how about Lucky Charms cereal? For last 50 yrs. this product has been represented by a cartoon caracature of a superstitious silly green leprechaun with an obvious Irish brogue. Have the Hibernians or the Emerald Society ever complain?
The way they talk in the T&J cartoon sounds better than most of them today...That’s the truth.
Banned.
A cure for Ebola may be found before they find a cure for stupidity, socialism and a certain religion designated as peaceful.
I do. I lived in the New York area from 1954 to 1984.
The milieu I grew up in was white ethnic. We told ethnic jokes to each other and enjoyed them. And most of us were Democrats.
A different time.
I know you can buy Amos and Andy online, but it sure would be nice to see it on Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, or RedBox.
As for the Little Rascals, I’m sure there are some of those that aren’t allowed either.
For that matter, the George Clooney movie “Oh Brother Where Art Thou?” probably has a few scenes that could offend.
You know, I even like seeing the “Birth of the Nation” once in a while.
I say put it all out there. Let folks see it. Discuss it. If you show how blacks were supposedly treated terribly, it’s rather enlightening how they are treated today.
You see, this is the real problem. They can’t show the old dated stuff, because then it would be impossible to continue the big lie, that racism is still terribly rampant in this nation.
There are undoubtedly biases, but today they are mostly earned.
In days gone buy, they weren’t.
We live in a different world. We just have folks who wish to game the system.
And whose mouths is the N word flying out of these days? I can assure you not many of them are conservatives and none of them are white. Absolute nonsense.
Can still be found on youtube
Cotton eye Joe- is another funny bugs cartoon- totally non PC
and a hundred years from now they will apologize for todays tv commercials that show blacks, latinos, Asians and women as the smart ones, while showing the white males as the horses ass.
Amos and Andy are on YouTube.
If someone is really - and I mean really - proud of their ancestry, then they won't feel overly offended by someone else applying a so-called "ethnic slur" to them, unless there is an obvious intent to offend.
Of course, when a certain word - any word - has historically been used and heard only in the context of an attempt to offend, then that word remains "charged" with ethnic animus.
Regards,
Huh...Nope...Not there either. No warning.
I just browsed Tyler Perry titles on Amazon. There’s no “THAT’S RACIST” warning.
I bought a “bootleg” DVD of “Song of the South” about 5 years ago, to show the grand kids.
“Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
My, oh my what a wonderful day!
Plenty of sunshine heading my way
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Mister Bluebird on my shoulder
It’s the truth, it’s actch’ll
Ev’rything is satisfactch’ll
Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay
Wonderful feeling, wonderful day!”
God knows what they’d say about Heckle and Jeckle!
Not only then the Japanese were our enemies, but it should be taken in the context of what the Japanese were doing to our POWs at that time.
