The reporter who brought down the Secret Service's director

Behind the shocking revelations of incompetence and unprofessionalism that rocked the Secret Service this week is a longtime reporter who has been diligently uncovering the agency's secrets for years.

Carol Leonnig, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist who has worked at The Washington Post for nearly 15 years, has broken almost every single story on the agency, a series of shocking reports that on Wednesday resulted in the abrupt resignation of Secret Service Director Julia Pierson. (Pierson called the resignation “painful.”)

In less than a week, Leonnig uncovered three scandals that pushed the agency’s first female leader out the door. First, she reported that Secret Service agents failed to respond for days when a gunman shot the White House residence seven times with a semi-automatic rifle in 2011, smashing a window while Sasha Obama was home. (At first the agency thought the noise was from a car backfiring; then they believed the bullets were from a gang fight they theorized must have occurred on the White House lawn.)

Leonnig also reported that a knife-wielding man who jumped the White House fence weeks ago made it all the way to the door of the Green Room before an off-duty officer tackled him. The man made it much farther into the building than the agency initially admitted.

Lawmakers pummeled Pierson on Tuesday with Leonnig’s reporting at a House Oversight Committee hearing on the agency’s security failures. After the hearing, Leonnig broke the news that President Obama recently rode an elevator with an armed felon who was acting strange. It’s unclear if the president was immediately informed of the security breach. Pierson announced her resignation the next day.

I wish the Washington Post would go after Fast and Furious, Benghazi, IRS Scandal etc. with as much gusto!

THE WASHINGTON POST IS REPORTING THURSDAY: In the spring, ousted SS head, Julia Pierson, was irate at what she considered the excessive security measures planned for the US-Africa Leaders Summit, which Obama hosted this summer, demanding that it dismantle extra layers of fencing and reopen closed streets, according to two agency supervisors.

SS supervisors who had mapped out the security plan said they were taken aback-------b/c Pierson, who worked during high school at Walt Disney World as a costumed character and park attendant, told them: “We need to be more like Disney World.......more friendly, inviting.”

At least in the major news outlets, it appears Carol Leonnig, is one of the last of a dying breed, if not the very last.

Well, at least she was one incompetent fool who knew she was in over or head and resigned. In the pecking order of incompetence in this administration, she is pretty far from the top unfortunately.

That’s funny. But makes sense when you realize that “progressives” live in a warped fantasy world.

Take note, mainstream journalists; this administration is ripe for the picking. Incompetence abounds and you too can write the story that busts something wide open. Woodward and Bernstein would be salivating over the possibilities. There’s room for all of you so pick an agency and go to town. May I suggest starting at State?

Leonnig said Secret Service sources were motivated to talk to her because “they know how great the Service has been in their lifetime and they know what a sacred duty it is to protect the president.

The troubles start at the top. The man who expects less of you will get less from you.

obama has presided over the greatest intentional diminution of our country since the founding. He has gotten what he set out to get.

I wonder, does harf think the glasses make her look studious, knowledgeable, informed, perhaps.

They make her look like a caricature. Her words clinch the image.

Continuing the tradition of journalists. Like Rush says, no resume of a journalist is complete without noting who they “took down”. Lucky for us, this time it was a Democrat appointee.

I wish they’d turn it up on the whole admin, but that will have to remain a wish.

When do we get "actors" walking around D.C. wearing giant foam-rubber heads of famous politicians?

Poor Ms. Pierson, only thing she has to look forward to is her golden parachute at JP Morgan for $millions and millions a year.

Oh the pain.

By the way has anyone see Monica Lewinsky and this chick in the same room?
