What is the first thing that leaps to your mind when you hear about a mystery virus that has afflicted children around the country just as the school year started? I know what it is. You know what it is. And many of the readers commenting on The Hill article know what it is. Even the writer, Susan Ferris, most likely knows what it is but does not mention the warning that dares not speak its name...at least in The Hill.
I am of course referring to the many health warnings about the illegal children who crossed the border and were dispersed around the country by the Obama administration. Although much of the left pooh-poohed the idea that those children could spread diseases to school kids, by an amazing coincidence a virus outbreak was discovered soon after the school term began. First let us look at the article that very noticeably fails to note the warnings about you-know-what:

I asked all my neighbors (who have children in school) if they are worried about them getting sick.
“Nope, not really, I doubt it.”
But I do live in California.

California - where nobody in the middle or upper middle class has their children vaccinated against anything anymore, because vaccines are “baaaad” and non-organic. They’re as bad as African villagers or Muslim loonies killing vaccination teams.
Watch for polio to make a comeback.

What did the british do to the indians? They gave them blankets of small pox victims so they to will contract the desease. Zippys immigration executive order that the piubies quietly coward in the corner is just that, spread them all across the nation especially in the high populated areas in the cities and sit back and enjoy. Oddly enough I just had a conversation with some health care pros and they echoed what you just stated.
Polio is likely to make a raging comeback, inside of 2 years.

I think it’s very scary. I’m old enough to remember the polio outbreak just before the vaccine, when the entire country was practically shut down. People were afraid to take their kids to any place where there were other children, every day you saw pictures of children in those horrifying “iron lungs.” It was really the stuff of nightmares. Plus it turned out to have effects decades later, and people who recovered from it as children suddenly developed the symptoms again when they were in their 40s or 50s.
Jonas Salk was an absolute hero when the vaccine was announced, and I remember lining up to get vaccinated and then later taking the “sugar cube” with the booster.
Horrifying disease, and I can’t believe that parents are playing roulette with their children’s future this way.
Mine got all the vaccinations! We were moving when one of them was scheduled for the measles vaccine, so he missed it...and got measles immediately in the his new school. (They gave the vaccine later at that time.) Unfortunately, he gave measles to his younger siblings, and one of them nearly died from it. They all survived, thank God, but I can’t imagine why somebody would take the chance of going through this and not have their child vaccinated.

So much misinformation going around, on ALL fronts, imho.
My dad had polio. They said he’d never walk again but he is a strong man. He has a tiny twisted leg that will some day give out on him as he gets older. I vaccinate my children. I don’t ever want them to have to live through what my father did. Oh, the stories he can tell!
I think that was the Sabin vaccine. I knew a few kids around my age who'd had polio and suffered varying degrees of handicap as a result. Probably most schools in the '50s and '60s had a few members who'd had polio.
So we all need the chickenpox vaccine and the papilloma virus vaccine and whatever else the schools decide we need? Polio and smallpox are one thing, flu vaccines are another. Moral equivalences.
And one other thing. There is a young girl in our church, ruined by vaccines as a young child, today decimated by constant seizures, whom the cdc refuses to recognize as their victim.
