(Reuters) - Several protesters were arrested on Thursday night after police clashed with demonstrators at a rally in Ferguson, Missouri, where black teenager Michael Brown was shot to death by a white police officer last month, CNN and KMOV-TV reported.
A number of protesters were arrested after Ferguson police chief Tom Jackson began marching with a crowd of rally-goers and a scuffle broke out near him, the broadcasters, CNN and St. Louis television station KMOV, said.
Reuters could not independently verify the reports. Representatives of the Ferguson Police Department could not be immediately reached for comment.
The latest incident comes just hours after Jackson issued a video apology to the parents of Michael Brown, following weeks of heavy criticism and calls for his ouster.
"I want to say this to the Brown family. No one who has not experienced the loss of a child can understand what you are feeling," Chief Jackson said in the video. "I am truly sorry for the loss of your son."
Jackson spoke directly into a camera and read from a script in the video, released by a public relations firm hired by the city. He addressed Brown's parents, as well as people whom he called "peaceful protesters."

Fox said they attacked the apologizing policeman.
If Darren Wilson was black, would there be the same reaction?
How about: any arrest leads to a suspension of any government benefits for six months.

There's something sad yet amusing about this.
One of those arrested was the culturally confused Umar Lee, a decidely white guy, part time cabbie, full-time fecal agitator.
Perhaps it’s time to tell the fine folks of Ferguson to fire their police department and police themselves. Don’t bring in the feds or staties, just let them do it.
You know, I couldn’t understand for the life of me why that police chief came out and apologized. Those people causing all the trouble couldn’t care less about apologies. They are not civil, they are feral and out for a hangin’.
All this guy did was make it worse.
Apology= MORE violence.
that is a very good lesson on the much larger question of slavery history ,multiculturalism and affirmative action. these efforts are well-intentioned but have the opposite effect.
I believe that the DOJ is on scene, actively prolonging tension in order to make an example of bringing local authorities to heel.
Renewed black anger is also handy Base Energization for the upcoming midterms,again showing the consummate skill of the Obama admin with orchestration, as with Fast and Furious.
I have a feeling that he was told by the higherups. But that does not change anything. The mob does not want apologies, they want blood, particularly Darren Wilson’s.
They want other peoples money and white peoples blood - right or wrong is not in play
