PETA calls on Big E to drop elephant show, petting zoo; fair president says... won't be bullied

The animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is taking aim at the Eastern States Exposition, asking that the fair to drop a Connecticut outfit that offers elephant rides and a children’s petting zoo.

...

Cassidy said he would not allow PETA to bully the Big E.

“As long as Gene Cassidy is president of the Big E, young people – and old people – will have the opportunity to see these animals,” he said.

Since just before Labor Day, the Big E’s offices in West Springfield have been flooded with thousands of e-mails from animal-rights supporters, to the point where the computer servers last week were bogged down by the sheer volume.

Fair officials say the e-mails have continued, but the amount has slowed enough to where the servers are now functioning better.

Cassidy said he is not a fan of PETA for what he called its "guerrilla campaigns" against those it opposes. He said if the group continues going after the Big E, the fair will take PETA to court.

Fair officials, he said, are continuing “to document the attacks on our servers.”

Brittany Peet, a counselor for the PETA offices in Washington D.C., said the animal rights organization is not sending e-mails to the Big E. No one at the Washington office has sent anything to the Big E other than one letter asking that it discontinue the elephant rides and petting zoo.

PETA, however, has posted a short article on its website titled “Please Ask Fair Not To Host Petting Zoo and Elephant Rides.” The article is under a link for “Action Alerts.” The article raises concerns about the elephants and about the petting zoo. It also asks supporters to sign an online e-mail petition that would be forwarded to the Big E.

Good for the Big E. It's nice how PETA claims they are not responsible, however they are just providing the "Action Alert" with the contact info.

I'll have a Craze E Burger to celebrate.

“Thousands of emails” my arse. We’re being ruled by new phoney baloney digital manipulation (machine emailing for example) and we had better expose it, ridicule it, degrade it and destroy it.

Thank you Big E for telling PETA to stick it. I hope Big E (New England’s Great State Fair) will sue PETA.

peta takes a lot of money from their mentally impaired donors, but there are only a few employees in Norfolk where they are headquartered. Yet they make a big noise with the news. They are fringe idiots riding the wave with money provided by like-minded idiots. I think I’ll go out and shoot, clean and eat an animal this afternoon in their honor.

Exactly, more people need to do this. Just ignore them and do as you were doing, and they become irrelevant
