The U.S.-led air campaign against Islamic State targets in Syria hit suspected extremist sites near the country's border with Iraq Wednesday, local residents and a monitoring group said.
At least 13 air raids were carried out by non-Syrian aircraft against sites on the outskirts of the town of Albukamal, near the Syrian-Iraqi frontier, the monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
Purported Islamic State positions also were hit overnight near Menbej, in the northeastern province of Aleppo, the Observatory said.
The airstrikes near Albukamal began at 10 a.m. local time and the buzz of reconnaissance aircraft flying overhead could be heard all night, said a resident of the town contacted through Facebook. FB -0.41% No further details were immediately available.
Islamic State fighters seized control of the town and the surrounding oil-rich province of Deir Ezzour in July.
At least 120 Islamist fighters, including about 50 from the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, were killed in the first wave of U.S. attacks Tuesday that hit militant positions in the northwest, the northeast and the east of Syria, said the Observatory, a U.K. -based monitoring group tracking the conflict through a network of activists in the country.

using the available video...would have taken an enormous amount of tiem and effort...and likely have yielded lousy results
