For people living under threat of arrest around St. Louis, a constant stress
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ^ | September 20, 2014 | Jeremy Kohler

Posted on 09/20/2014 7:44:28 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Hunkered down in her south St. Louis County apartment with a mug of coffee and a thick novel, Carol Ray, 54, tries to enjoy a sunny morning off from work. But that’s hard when you’re a fugitive from justice who could be taken away in handcuffs at any moment.

On her kitchen table sit unpaid traffic tickets from the cities of Beverly Hills and Town and Country: $199 total.

Somebody with money could hire a lawyer with contacts in the court, exchange a few emails and pay extra to keep points off their license. With no more sacrifice than a Friday night at home with Netflix and a $10 bottle of wine, the tickets are taken care of.

But that’s not how it works for a customer service representative making $12.67 an hour. Beverly Hills has a warrant out for her arrest; Town and Country court workers said they may issue one as soon as this week. And Ray just got notice her drivers license will be suspended because she skipped court....

So now criminals should receive blanket amnesty because it's not fair or something?

What a complete piece of crap article. NOBODY hires lawyers for parking tickets...how is paying a lawyer cheaper than paying a pkg ticket? This is otherworldly stupid.

Didn’t Al Sharpton lead a similar riot many moons ago?

You do have to hire a lawyer if an infraction turns into a felony bench warrant.

Not every one can pay $167 traffic tickets or even go to traffic school.

DUH

i am sympathetic to people who try to work their problems out and can’t get anyone to work with them to get things right.

i don’t have sympathy for people who make their own bad choices and then expect people to feel sorry for them and let them off the hook withoutnthem lifting a finger to try to work with the other parties to make things right.

like setting up a payment plan that may take awhile, but will square things away. like not just sitting on their ass hoping they’ll stay under the radar but not trying to fix their problems, justhoping it will all be forgiven them without them having to do anything.

If you can’t pay the “dime”, don’t do the crime.

It’s EVERY bit as simple as that.

Go ahead and hire that lawyer. You may need it for skipping court. Dance with the Bull you may get the Horns.

It doesn't say they are 'parking tickets'.

They’re speed traps. Cops are in the revenue collection business.

A speeding ticket is a tax. They collect it whether or not you’re guilty.

Illegal immigrants show us that if enough break a law, they become a courted voting block.

All future GOPers must run on the promise of amnesty.

amnesty for back taxes.

Amnesty for weapons violations.

EPA violations.

So, the answer would be...ignore the ticket, yes?

You’d have to hire a brain surgeon to get a brain transplant if you didn’t read the ticket that says it will escalate into a bench warrant if no appearance is made. Or, you could try to go cheaper and work on remedial reading when the parking ticket says it will AUTOMATICALLY go to a bench warrant if the fine isn’t paid or an appearance is not made.

An infraction turns into a bench warrant if the ticketee takes no action. It doesn’t do that on its own. If she is poor, she needs to go to the court and work out some kind of payment plan.

Let me know what other laws you don’t think she should have to follow that everyone else does. Perhaps...they could break into stores and take cigars or TeeVees and stuff?
