Airborne Transmission of Ebola is a Possibility
Laboratory Equipment Magazine ^ | Thu, 09/18/2014 - 7:00am | Purdue Univ.

The idea of the Ebola virus becoming airborne is not far-fetched as its ability to enter cells that line the trachea and lungs has been shown under controlled laboratory conditions, a Purdue Univ. virus expert says.

David Sanders, an associate professor of biological sciences who has studied the Zaire strain of Ebola virus that is responsible for the current outbreak in West Africa, says the possibility of the virus becoming airborne should not be discounted.

According to FReeper AUTHORATAHs this is simply not true.

The game of Ebola Roulette continues...

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

We’re gonna need

a bigger cart!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I was an airborne Ebola skeptic, and I don’t doubt that the virus will infect via a lung. Also someone pointed out on the Ebola thread that if you smell the excretions from the victim you have just breathed in viruses.

If there is an outbreak here, the goobermint will deny and keep it secret as long as they can.

They will call it some kind of flu outbreak

Of course they will, “You can’t handle the truth!”

Personally I’ve found that the government always protects itself first and then worries about the people it is supposed to protect second.

Not that old.

I remember in 1981 when a deadly new disease was spreading amongst homosexual men. We thought it might be the solution to the queer problem. Didn’t work out for us but cost lots of money and innocents got caught up in the mess as well.

I expect this Ebola outbreak will spread this time. Adults are not in charge of things.

But that mutation was not fatal to humans. The gene mutates—allowing for airborne infection, but decreases lethality? Mutations are weird things.

I think it's already airborne, just not on the scale of influenza.

From what I've read, Ebola doesn't concentrate in the lungs, and people don't cough and sneeze a lot when they have Ebola. But that's not saying that Ebola isn't present in the lungs or respiratory tract or that one cough or sneeze couldn't spread it.

I don't see how so many medical workers got it otherwise.

The Reston strain almost certainly went airborne; no reason to think Zaire cannot do the same.
