Police say a large-scale anti-terrorism raid in Sydney this morning has foiled a plot to "commit violent acts" in Australia, including a plan to behead a member of the public.
More than 800 officers launched the raids as part of Operation Appleby in suburbs across Sydney's west and north-west, with a further 70 police involved in raids on properties in Brisbane's south.

The accused terrorist’s uncle, Dr Ehsan Azari who is a lecturer in Afghani studies at the University of Western Sydney, said his nephew was “very pious”.
“If he is truly involved in this it is someone else who has convinced him, turned his mind,” he said.
The lecturer said Azari’s parents are unaware that their son had been arrested because they left Sydney for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to make the Haj pilgrimage to Mecca.
The folks should stay in Mecca.
