Egypt trying to reposition itself as bastion of stability

Next week, when President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi arrives in New York at the head of the Egyptian delegation to the UN General Assembly he will likely seek to put an end to questions of his legitimacy as head of state. He will also, according to the same diplomatic argument, be ending the “diplomatic isolation” that “some countries” – the reference is always made to Qatar and Turkey – have tried to impose on Egypt.

This said, Cairo officials, including the head of the state himself, are aware that when all is said and done, ”the return of Egypt,” as would be portrayed with the arrival of El-Sisi to the podium of the UN General Assembly to address the world on behalf of Egypt is actually an incident that does not come along with many festivities.

“We know that at the end of the day we are being accepted from a sheer pragmatic sense especially in relation to wider regional stability but we also know that it is a rather lukewarm acceptance that is coming our way, especially from the leading world powers whose governments still worry about influential political and public criticism regarding some political developments in Egypt,” said one high-level diplomat.

A clearly absent sign is a meeting that Egyptian officials were hoping would be conducted with US President Barack Obama who is now most likely to just shake hands with El-Sisi during a “corridor meeting” on the fringe of the GA meetings.

From the beginning, Sisi has done what he said he would do. He refused to fire on his own people when Morsi said do so.

He stopped the persecution and murder of Christians. He directed the rebuilding of the Christian Churches that were destroyed under Morse.

He has worked with Israel in a constructive manner. He is a leader and a builder, unlike Obozo, the divider and destroyer.

I have liked Sisi from the start.

May God Bless Egypt, Israel, the U.S., and your family and mine.

He has my utmost respect.

AND he knows what to do with the MB Terrorists. He is not wavering on that.

I have friends in Cairo, their new goverment is showing real leadership qualities. They are reliable, intelligent, undivided and forward thinking.

Egypt is an ancient civilization. They were conquered by Muslims. They have kept much of their prior qualities.

They are not dummies.

“I have liked Sisi from the start.”

Me too, especially making Obama’s travel staff go through metal detectors...that was PRICELESS.

“I have friends in Cairo”

I have a coworker, older guy, who emigrated. He’s a Copt (Christian, for those of you in Rio Linda).

He says the people in his church (in the US) are simply calling Sisi a “miracle”...especially now that they’ve tasted the Brotherhood.

Yes, my friend, the Egyptians have a winner.

el Sisi loves his country and they love him.

They are unified and they make me smile to see them succeed.

Yes, agreed. The Egyptians quickly corrected their turn to the jihadis, and for all the reasonable reasons. So, I hope they continue to stay strong, in fact I hope they get stronger.

The fact Egypt has been totally absent from the US media tells me that 1) they greatly oppose Obama and 2) their new leaders are probably doing all the right things now.

the MSM is too embarrassed to talk about “the Arab Spring.”

Agree totally.

It is a sad state when the US Fed Gov consistently supports those seeking to enslave the world. But we are there.

Agree...I was SO IMPRESSED to see the military clean up the place. I really thought that the Brotherhood was simply too popular and too strong to ever lose power, once they got it. It’s just a shame that isn’t the case in Turkey...where I would have expected the military to have fixed things by now.

Every single super hot Egyptian girl on the internet...

Too much information? On topic, Egypt has always been a moderate source in the Middle East. Until Obama came along. Obama won't last. Hopefully a moderate Egypt will.

Erdogan is an Islamist.

I am sure he is purging the military like Obozo is trying.
