Son of Irish born actor Victor McLaghlen. His first film (as 2nd assistant director) was “The Quiet Man” starring his father and John Wayne.

He directed a lot of “Gunsmoke” episodes, back during its black-and-white era. I always noticed when his name was listed as the director, it was bound to be a particularly ‘good’ one, with lots of sharp action and on-location scenery.

Dang. I didn’t realize that he was even that old. Wild Geese is one of my favorite movies.

A good long life and he got to work with some of the greats. RIP. His father was quite the actor too.

I remember that one. Must have been one of the last (if not the very last) roles his father had, as he died right around that time.

One of the few directors to have directed both Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. Some of the others are Don Siegel and John Sturges.Andrew McLaglen

I get Grit TV off the antennae! I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the good quality and selection of old movies.

McClintock! is one of our family favorites. Hollywood would never make it today.
To: Borges
I wouldn’t say he was “one of the greats”, but he sure got to work with some of the greats when he became John Wayne’s house director for many of the Duke’s Batjac productions.

His father’s fight with John Wayne in The Quite Man, was one of the best fight scenes in cinema history.

McClintock is my all-time favorite western! It told the story about what really happened, twenty some years after they lived happily ever after!
Great cast and great story!

I’m afraid I don’t get that channel. But I’ve accumulated most of the old vintage tv-western series on dvd that are available. And, I have quite a collection of western films as well, going all the way back to the silent days of Hoot Gibson, Jack Hoxie, and Leo Maloney!
