The leaking of hundreds of private and intimate photographs of Hollywood celebrities cast new doubt on the security of popular online storage sites Monday as investigators probed for explanations of the high-profile breach.
Privacy experts joined Hollywood publicists in denouncing the leaks, which flooded Web sites over the weekend with nude images of more than a half-dozen A-list actresses and performers, including Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, star of “The Hunger Games” and “Silver Linings Playbook.”

I wonder who are these idiots who ever thought clouds are secure?
I call bad comparison. At least in theory, Apple’s cloud should be safe. Donald Sterling confided damaging information to a severely untrustworthy person.
A theory offered on Twitter by security expert Dan Kaminsky, chief scientist at WhiteOps.com, is that someone who was collecting a cache of the celebrity nudes may have been hacked by the person or people who spread the images online over the weekend. If the photos were collected by a person from different sources over a long period of time, it could explain why some of the images appear to be genuine and others are allegedly fake.That would also explain why many of the pictures were taken by Android phones, Windows PC webcams, had Tumblr watermarks, etc., and variously didn't come from Apple devices.
The question I ask in this case is why the hypocrisy?
I view this as a full realization that even NOW Apple can no be viewed as being perfect in the security area.
They should use ancient technology-Polaroids!

Well, you have to admit, Jennifer Lawrence is a heck of a lot better looking than Donald Sterling. That is what really matters, isn’t it?
I don’t give a damn about these photos of these celebrities. The important thing, here, is that people realize that cloud storage is inherently insecure. People treat it like a hard drive. It ain’t a hard drive.
As for the celebrities: If you are getting too much publicity, fire your publicist.

I have a neighbor who I barely know but she’s one of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen. Probably 25 or 26 years old, brown-eyed brunette, 100 lbs and with a very sexy voice. I don’t need to see nudie pics of her to appreciate the beauty I’ve already seen up close and I sure as heck don’t need to see nudie pics of some celebrity chick all the way from Hollywood.
Point is: they didn’t. Took the pictures for private use, in some cases deleted ‘em, then someone broke into Apple’s version of a safe deposit box and published ‘em.
The cloud is more secure then most people’s computers and definitely more secure than most companies.
If these “stars” want to keep their nudity private, don’t take the pictures, or give someone else the opportunity to take them. Personally, I think the release of these “private photos” are nothing more than publicity stunts to get their names (and private parts) exposed thereby gaining attention to their failing careers. They are and have been, attention seekers, its what they do.
I doubt your theory. These are private pictures intended for personal use. They trusted a “secure” service too much but may not have even realized the software was copying the pictures.
How about if it was your wife’s pictures? Whoever did this probably had access to those too.

Anything sent to or connected to the web is fair game for massive hordes of hackers. There is no such animal as Web security.
