It must be mounted on a tripod!
Same thing happen in Westfield, MA several years ago. There was a gun show where you could rent a machine gun to shoot pumpkins. I think the kid was ten.
Lots of lawsuits and trials.
I paid a visit once to the S&W firing range located near their factory a few years ago. They were fanatical about range safety (understandably)...so much so that they ejected a party that violated safety rules while we were there.
This was done by an instructor??? REALLY? Even if the little girl, poor thing, had fired “several” times (how many is that 3?) this does not qualify her for full auto anything. Barely semi-auto. When I go out with a newbie I only load one round at a time in EVERYTHING. The reflex to flinch is very strong. The poor girl is now scarred for life and the man’s family is mourning. What a shame
The instructor was just asking for a problem with these variables. He paid with his life. Why would even her parents subject a little kid at 9 with this type of weapon.
Those comments on that blog are a glimpse into the immaturity
and coldness from the anti gun rights view. For ex. Wishing for
more deaths to gun owners while protesting to be against violence. It’s all control what you or I can do.
Darwin Award candidate.
The name of the range was the first clue.
Obviously, the 9 yr old was working for an anti gun group.
I guess arts & crafts summer camp was all booked up?
Death isn’t funny. However, how one dies can be hilarious. This has me laughing my fanny off.
Lucky she didn’t shoot herself or a couple other people with that thing. No, make that the instructor and not the girl because it was his fault.
The range is aptly named.
Very foolish not to have your hands on the weapon along with the shooter the first time someone completely unfamiliar with the recoil...Unfortunately he won’t get another chance and the girl will be harmed for life...Sad...
Well, I feel a lot sadder for the little girl.
As it appears, she was innocent of any wrongdoing, but it’s going to take a lot to live with what she did.
This just too STUPID to comment on.
Sheer stupidity.
RIP
NOT an “instructor”. Certification REVOKED. Darwin Award winner.
I was just watching a Youtube video last night about “range jerks”. They are people who give unqualified/untrained individuals too large of caliber firearms to shoot. A girl died this same way last year in Missouri at a range when an instructor gave her a 50 caliber revolver to shoot.
My kids go through a progression of weapons. Air rifle, followed by air pistol, then .22 rifle, and .22 pistol. After that comes a .223 with only one round, and it’s a very long sequence and time before they get to automatic weapons (actually never). I don’t want some exciting moment to remember; I want shooting to be something they do well and take very seriously. Several people made a broad range of serious mistakes, and in my opinion a 9 y/o shooting an Uzi with more than one round was one of those errors.
A Darwin Award candidate. At 9, a single shot .22 would be a good starter weapon. An Uzi? Not so much.
