I wonder how much ransom was paid, and I wonder how many more people will be kidnapped because the ransom was paid?

Good question. Perhaps the family or his employer paid?? The article states he was turned over to the United Nations.

Wow. There is no doubt 0bama’s firm resolve scared the wits out of them. After all, anybody as cold-blooded as he is will pursue them mercilessly to the ends of the earth!

I'm thinking it's more of a political move rather than pay off...

The world has seem the savagery of their like minded brethren...ISIS...

Pretty bad PR...

Nusra Front, the Qaeda affiliate in Syria needs funding unlike ISIS who just steal Iraqi assets like oil..

Maybe they don't want to be seem as complete barbarians if they want continued help to overthrew Assad...

You must have read how the two captive journalists were treated.

Have to wonder if these savages have wives and children or are they all sadomasochistic manly men.

Count on this journalist, Peter Theo Curtis, to have a severe case of Stockholm Syndrome. I'm certain he will sing the praises of his captors on the pages of the NY Times and thereby demonstrate Islam is a “religion of peace”. Then, he might have been a Muslim sympathizer to start and his two years in captivity only strengthened him in his love for these poor, oppressed Muslims.

I think there’s a pretty big difference between a hostage held by a terrorist group and someone held on criminal charges by a sovereign government.

CNN is saying this:

“The United States was not involved in negotiations for his release, but was aware of private efforts to secure the release, two U.S. law enforcement officials said. It’s not known whether any ransom was paid, the officials said.”
