U.S. military mulls sending about 300 more troops to Iraq as airstrikes continue

WASHINGTON — U.S. officials say military planners are weighing the possibility of sending more American forces to Iraq mainly to provide additional security around Baghdad.

A senior U.S. official says the number of troops currently under discussion would be fewer than 300, but there has been no final decision yet by Pentagon leaders.

The talks come as American fighter jets and drones conducted nearly a dozen airstrikes in Iraq since Tuesday when Islamic State militants threatened to kill a second American captive in retribution for any continued attacks.

Yep, incrementalism... Very much like Vietnam.

God protect our men and women over there...

So how many between 1,000 to over 2,000 US troops do we have in Iraq?

Hopefully, Obozo and Holder are allowing them to have ammo in their weapons and fire at will ROE’s.

I worry about some of our guys being captured, for example, at a “false flag” highway checkpoint. It’s a standard tactic for jihadists to put on “friendly” uniforms to get the drop on enemies. The execution of Foley, a valuable “chip,” shows that they need more hostages.

I also fear that they will raid a hospital or refugee camp near ISIS territory to obtain Western hostages. This could even be in Jordan or Lebanon.

“Get More Hostages” is high on Bagdadi’s “to do list.”

Again you are ahead of the reality curve when it comes to America recognizing the bad guys:

Foley Abduction Linked to British Jihadi Kidnapping Ring in London
Daily Beast ^ | 08/21/2014 | Josh Rogin

“Weeks before he was abducted, alleged members of a kidnapping network tied to ISIS were busted in London. Syrian extremists saw it as a reason to accelerate abductions. American journalist James Foley was captured in Syria in November 2012, just weeks after the British government arrested and charged three British citizens, who were alleged members of a group of foreign fighters associated with the Islamic State, for the kidnapping of two other Western journalists.

It remains unclear whether these accused terrorists who later slipped through the fingers of the British legal system were part of the same extremist cell that abducted Foley, but they are part of a growing network of foreign fighters working together and with ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

The London legal case was viewed among extremist groups in Syria as a call to action to accelerate abductions of Western journalists, because one of the former hostages had testified against the alleged extremists in pretrial hearings before the case fell apart. The case also highlights the British government’s long struggle with how to combat the growing number of its own citizens who are waging jihad in Syria and fighting alongside ISIS.

In early November 2013, the British government released and dropped all charges against Shajul Islam, a British-trained doctor who was associated with the NHS. Islam had been arrested in October 2012 when he arrived back in London with his wife and child at Heathrow airport and was charged with the false imprisonment of two Western journalists kidnapped in Syria in July 2012.”
