Ray Allen Pissed Off At Police For Not Taking Home Invasion Seriously

NBA free agent Ray Allen and his family are not thrilled with Coral Gables police after a recent break-in at Allens' home.

The family's home in Coral Gables, a suburb of Miami where Allen most recently played with the Heat, was broken into last Thursday by a group of teenagers. The teenagers claimed they just wanted to see the house and thought it had been vacated, and police declined to press any charges. The Allens see the situation much differently.

The family released this statement Sunday, per the Miami Herald:

"We want to correct the erroneous information being reported about the crime committed in our home this week. On Thursday morning at 2:30 a.m., my wife Shannon was awakened by loud voices in our bedroom where she had been sleeping with our four young children.

"She heard male voices loudly discussing our personal property and sat up in a state of alarm to find at least five people inside our bedroom with large flashlights. She was immediately fearful for the safety of her own life, but more importantly the lives of our young children. When she screamed at them, the intruders quickly fled the scene and laughter was heard as they made their way out of our bedroom, down the stairs and out of our house.

"As these individuals were fleeing our house, Shannon immediately called security and the police for help. Shannon and I believe that a number of the public statements made through media outlets have mischaracterized certain important facts and what we believe to be the seriousness of this potentially devastating invasion upon our lives, home and family," Allen said. The strong statement actually put the police in motion, who are now working with the Allen family on potentially filing charges. The police released their own statement in support of the Allen family, but maintained that the officers who came to the scene followed the correct protocol for such situations of trespassing.

It's pretty surprising the kids weren't in more trouble just based on Allen's celebrity status. Then again, if the cops were Heat fans, there's no guarantee they know who Ray Allen is.

Seems to me that Ray Allen wants to have the boundaries of his home RESPECTED and not invaded by people who have no legal right to be there!

Hey Ray, WELCOME TO AMERICA. Maybe the next time you're partyin' it up with Alonzo Mourning's good friend Obama, you can relate this story and how wrong it is to have an unauthorized invasion of your borders.

It would be sweet irony if they were a couple of Obama's sons wearing hoodies.

Where was Ray Allen at 2:30 AM? Why wasn’t he home taking care of his family? I am sure he was not at church.

Not trespassing but burglary.

What kind of brain dead idiot would break into Ray Lewis's house?

Do they know what Ray Lewis does to people? I'm pretty sure 'Ray Lewis' is also a verb synonymous with 'brutally murder', as in "I Ray Lewis'd a punk that ticked me off."

If the wife had been armed, she'd be able to show the cops what was left of one or two of the thugs tourists and they'd have to take her seriously.

Trespassing is when nothing is broken. This was probably Breaking and Entering.

In Kansas, its actually aggravated burglary if the authorities can prove intent to steal. Its aggravated since there were people there. It doesn’t matter if the perps thought that there was no one home. Intent to steal can’t be too hard to prove.

I refuse to travel south of Okeechobee...
That said:
Since when is breaking and entering into any dwelling, occupied or not, a matter left up to cops to determine if the trespassers will be prosecuted or not?

Isn't that the DA’s call?
