Free Rick Perry: Absurd charges against him are an nothing but an attempt to wound him politically.
National Review ^ | 08/19/2014 | Rich Lowry

It tells you much about the laughable indictment of Texas governor Rick Perry that it has made him a figure of bipartisan sympathy.

Perry was indicted last week for the offense of vetoing an appropriations bill. Not vetoing an appropriations bill in exchange for a bribe. Not vetoing an appropriations bill as a favor to a donor. Not vetoing an appropriations bill in excess of his lawful authority. But simply vetoing an appropriations bill.

That Perry could, in theory, face more than 100 years in prison stemming from this veto is so mind-bogglingly stupid that even Democrats and mainstream journalists have been taken aback.

The whole matter has its roots in the drunken-driving arrest last year of Travis County district attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, a Democrat. Police pulled her over for driving erratically. Video of the stop shows Lehmberg failing all manner of roadside tests and nearly tipping over as the polite officers try to keep her upright.

By the time she’s at the jail, she’s a parody of an entitled public figure. She blusters. She whines. She belittles. She threatens. She kicks and bangs. Her behavior is so outrageous that she has to be restrained like Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs.

Her blood-alcohol level was about three times the legal limit, and she ended up pleading guilty and serving jail time. Governor Perry thought, not unreasonably, that Lehmberg should resign. Her office houses the state’s Public Integrity Unit, and she no longer seemed a fit leader of it, for obvious reasons.

I hope that he finds his way through this, and doesn’t suffer the same fate that Christie did.

Perry was the one that I early on here at FR supported when I found out that Sarah Palin wasn’t going to run. Later on when it was clear that he wasn’t going to get the nom, I supported Gingrich as many here apparently did because he was a better alternative than Romney.

That brain meltdown during the primary debates was one unfortunate incident which on hindsight, should NOT have mattered much in the scheme of things.

But media made a big deal out of it, playing it over and over again.

The tactic worked against Palin in Alaska. So they try it in Texas.
0bama used smear tactics in Illinois to discredit his opponents so he had no opposition in his senate race.

,,, Perry may be totally exonerated of any wrong doing but from now on he will be referred to by the Mean Streak Media as the formally indicted republican governor of Texas ,, while at the same time Clinton is never referred to as the formally impeached Prez. of the rat party . Funny how’s that work now days with the MSM ???

With Christie and DeLay you didn’t have the viral Youtube videos of a drunken lush strapped to a rolling chair with a spit mask over her head. I just does not get any better than that. IMO Perry will make political hay out of this one.

There would have been no meltdown if conservatives let the GOP-e know that they will never support a RINO (If the GOP-e even suspects that conservatives will support a RINO, then we will keep getting the Dole’s, Ford’s. Bush Sr’s, McCain’s and Romney’s over and over again). If this ever occurs, then the GOP-e will have to anoint a candidate that is at least halfway between a RINO and a conservative.

Disagreeing with Democrats is a criminal act, in their minds. They will use all of their powers, including immoral and corrupt, ones to prevail.

The Democratic Party is an immoral demonic force that booed God at their last convention. They will stop at nothing to bring about their evil goals. They made a joke of Paul Wellstone’s memorial and are using Ferguson Mo. for registering votes.

Deja vu..governor Scott Walker. I was shocked that even the NY Slimes halfheartedly said the charges were bogus. This is going to backfire on the Democrats.

This attack on Perry is in response to Perry showing everyone how ignorant Obama was about the border, and asking President Zero to go to the border embarrassed him.

Obama in office for 5 years hasn’t gone to the border yet.

When Perry sent the Texas Rangers to the border to fill in for the Federal border agents and homeland insecurity Perry
put an Alinsky sized target on his back

This is just the kind of prosecution that Texas should address with a panel that would have to rule on political prosecutions.

We got Boner instead of Rep. Tom Delay because the Dems were afraid the GOP would have a fighter in charge of the House speakers office.

Agree, makes you wonder why so many people on this forum think that it’s OK if they win and may even vote for them on occasion.

I’m not a Rick Perry fan. I didn’t want him running for Pres last time, not crazy about him running this next time but this indictment is entirely BOGUS!

and for it to keep him from running for President in the future is totally wrong.

He did nothing wrong, she did! Rick Perry didn’t pour the liquor down her throat. She should have been honorable enough to resign when she got caught.

But then what am I saying? (slaps forehead) “honorable” isn’t in the democrat’s vocabulary ... EVER!

I say this with great reluctance. I believe Zell Miller, Gov. Casey of Pa., Harry Truman, Adlai Stevenson were and are good men. But the heart and soul of the Demo party led by Obama & Hillary is essentially evil and predatory towards hard working Americans who want to keep their paychecks. This party in general has no concern for human life or decency. They will lie, coverup or do anything with their willing partners in the press.
