One of the nation's most pro-life governors is facing growing opposition from his own party -- and some of that opposition has backed a pro-abortion candidate to replace him.
More than 100 self-described “moderate Republicans” have thrown their support behind a pro-abortion Democrat against an embattled pro-life Republican Governor Sam Brownback of Kansas, saying economic matters are of greater importance than abortion.
The 100 Republicans have endorsed Paul Davis, a supporter of abortion and the top Democrat in the state House. Critics have focused their ire on what they say is an irresponsible approach to the state budget -- Brownback's tax cuts are being blamed for revenues that are $300 million below projections -- as well as education budget cuts.
Brownback has a record of pro-life support going back more than a decade.
As Senator, Brownback supported overturning Roe v. Wade, and stood against taxpayer funding for abortion. In 2007, he voted in favor of an amendment that would have prevented federal grants from going to most organizations that conduct abortions for reasons other than to save the life of the mother.
During a brief campaign for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008, Brownback accused candidate Mitt Romney of being soft on the issue of abortion.

The backing of taking an unborn child’s life is an indicator of a lack of morality. Take President Obama for example. Look at his 6 years as president and what he has done. That is what a man with an affinity for abortion will do. Is that what they want?

No, I’d say the issue is revenue. The people speak. The fact that he is pro abortion is more democrat than anything else. If people start complaining about tax cuts, someone has a screw loose, and failed econ 101.
What is it with Kansans and their occasional obsession with abortion? They elected the notorious abortion-by-any-means advocate Kathleen Sebelius, tolerated child-killer George Tiller in their midst, and now seem on the precipice of electing yet another pro-abort to the governorship.
The main objection of the "moderates" is that Brownback is a fiscal conservative as well as a socon. They are upset over his forcing a cut in government.
Too bad aborted babies are not allowed to vote.
A comment on a previous thread concerning these “100 Republicans” pointed out that these were all has been’s, liberals thrown out of the Republican inner circle during the Kansas war to seize control of the Republican Party from its left wing masters. A number of them are reportedly in nursing homes.
They and many other left leaning Republicans have no future inside the Republican Party in Kansas. Their only hope for political power is to join with the rump Democrat Party and try to win elections. They have a chance this year because of Brownback’s determination to eliminate the income tax beginning with small business owners and independent contractors. This has caused a temporary drop in tax revenues that was covered by a substantial state surplus. Revenues are starting to turn around, but the liberals abhor any tax reduction and are hammering this issue at every turn.
For years you couldn’t get elected dog catcher if you were a Dem in Kansas so everyone registered as a Republican and some ran for office and won. My county, Johnson, is especially bad. I quit going to the bar lunches because their speakers were always some uberlib type. Add in Douglas County where KU resides and Wyandotte Co which has been run by corrupt dems for its entire existence and you get a slightly purple state.
Just more evidence that there really is no such thing as a "moderate Republican." Ya ere one, er ye ain't one. Make up yer mind.
“moderates” need to be true to their beliefs and become DIMocRATs. RINOs out. Conservatives in. No votes, no effort, no time, no money for RINOs...ever.
Most of the 100 “Republicans” supporting the leftist RAT were thrown out of office by conservatives. KS has a long history of RATS pretending to be Republicans to get elected in a heavily Republican state.

There is an argument going on behind the scenes here and elsewhere.
Several statehouses were taken by Republicans in a sweep, yet the liberal Republican leadership is still in charge. So the end result is Republican who talk like conservatives, but *spend* like Democrats.
This is what severely hurt the Republican congress in W. Bush’s second term. They just could not restrain their impulses to spend egregious amounts of money.
So while abortion is a big issue here, the bigger issue is impulse control. Fortunately, fiscal conservatism is also aligned with the anti-abortion side.
Thus, “the 100 ‘moderate’ Republicans” are actually liberal Republicans, who want abortion and to again spend like Democrats.
Moderate just another code word for liberal.

I’m referring to the time prior to Tiller’s killing. He was seen as some kind of “pillar to the community.”
