One of the last important primaries before the November midterms will be held Tuesday in Alaska. Voters will pick the Republican candidate to oppose Democratic Senator Mark Begich.

There are three very credible candidates who are locked in a tough battle: Alaska politician Dan Sullivan, current Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell and Tea Party favorite Joe Miller.

Dan Sullivan, the former attorney general and natural resources commissioner has led for months and is backed by the GOP political establishment including by Fox News contributor and former George W. Bush senior advisor Karl Rove.

Four years ago, Sarah Palin's endorsement of Miller, a total unknown at the time, in the Republican primary led to a defeat for the incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski for the Republican nomination.

Being the establishment candidate is not always the best place to be in Alaska, a solid red state but pretty maverick by any measurement.

That’s right, unless Governor Palin has an endorsement rate of 100%, she’s a failure.

Just ask Karl Rove.

Lol...”this could be the end of Sarah”... *chuckle*

Sarah has lived in their heads rent free for so long it’s like a second home.

I predict AK will pick the worst possible Republican nominee and then go Democrat in the fall.

"This could be the end of Sarah"

This could be the end of Sarah's tax increase on oil.

This article doesn't say anything about the drama of this election.

Palin did two things as gov. The tax increase on oil that was called ACES and the pipeline called AGIA and AGIA replaced Frank Murkowski's pipeline.

Parnell was Palin's Lt and became gov when she resigned. Frank Sullivan(now the leading GOP candidate for Senate running against Miller) was Palin's AG.

When Parnell was elected to Gov he hired Sullivan to be head of Dept of Natural Resources(top O&G regulator) and the two of them set out to undo what Palin had done as Gov.

They re-did Palin's pipeline deal(AGIA) and it now resembles the pipeline that Murkowski wanted.

They also undid/lowered Palin's tax increase on oil(ACES). Except this tax reduction on oil has to be approved by the voters so it is also on the ballot, and the voters might vote(or might not) to cut Palin's tax increase.

Palin hasn't talked much about this. But she would definitely not endorse Sullivan in the primary. I don't know what she will do if Sullivan wins the primary and goes up against Begich in the general.

I’ve said, for a few weeks now, that I think Begich is going to pull this one out on Nov. 4. While the 3 Pubbies have been cutting each other to pieces, he’s been raising money and running a stellar campaign. Earlier this year, this seat looked like an easy pick-up for the GOP, but, I think this is one that will disappoint Mitch McConnell and Karl Rove on Election night.

I still wonder why Sarah didn’t run for this seat and I also wonder why she waited until 3 days before the Primary to endorse Miller? I like Joe, but, Miller dude could not even win against a write-in candidacy. I do prefer him over the other two, but, I think on Nov. 4, Begich wins in a squeaker.
