From Kent State to Ferguson [a cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, then a racket]
The American Spectator ^ | August 19, 2014 | Jeffrey Lord

"..........And forty-four years later? How has this worked out? Nothing has changed. In spite of four years of the Jimmy Carter presidency, eight years of the Clinton presidency, and six years of the Obama presidency, things are grim. America is somehow full of social injustice and racism. How can this be?

As has been noted in different contexts, there is that famous Eric Hoffer quote: “Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.” And as that long ago report that was nominally on “campus unrest” but had “social justice” and “racism” as its subtext, somehow the first is not to be found and the latter is everywhere.

Over at the New York Post, the Hoover Institution’s Paul Sperry has zeroed in exactly on the racism racket being run by the Obama administration's social justice liberals. Under the headline “Why the Obama administration sees racism everywhere,” Sperry notes:

Attorney General Eric Holder’s race-baiting is no secret. Justice Department documents show the nation’s top cop gave thousands of dollars to help the Rev. Al Sharpton organize marches protesting the death of Trayvon Martin. Now he’s sent the civil-rights unit to St. Louis to do the same thing in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown.

So far, so normal for Holder.".......

I love these Ferguson riots. I can't get enough. I wish I was there and had the police radio on to listen to the banshee whooping of the restless natives.

To me, this is pure entertainment. When they rioted here in Cincinnati, we listened to every minute and when a police mic would open and there was the sound of an outgoing tear gas rounds or the rum dum dum of rubber bullets there would be applause. But there was nothing like the glee and laughter when the open mic would reveal the barking of a police K9 dog. The barking would always be followed in close order by a call for an ambulance to cart away one of the blacks for dog bite treatment. It was like a sweet serenade.

>>> [a cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, then a racket]

You can say that about a lot of ‘causes’.

War on Drug, War on Poverty, etc. ...... newest cause War on Women.

Lots and lots of Do-Gooders propelled some cause to a movement, but then they can’t be bothered to get involved or organized. So professional leftists took over. Sums up pretty much most of the NGOs.

Hot damn! Celebrating 100 years!

“There is a class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs-partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs. ~ Booker T. Washington (1856-1915.) ~ Educator, Author, Civil Rights Leader

Not a racket... It’s an industry!

Charge the ‘community organizers’ with RICO violations. Most of their money comes from extortion of taxpayers.
The Government creates a problem, then an industry to throw money at to address the problem. It is not in their interests to end the problem, however. That would end the gravy train.

Yes, that is probably a better description of it. I heard, however, that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton were not as well received as they would have liked in Missouri. If that is true, it is refreshing.

I have his book “Up From Slavery”. He did have worries about some Negros assimilating. Yes, he was correct, there are the likes of Sharpton, Jackson, Obama keeping the grievances alive so they can live the lifestyles they make by stirring the pot of racism. A pity, because the average blacks are Americans and are receiving the back hand of racism, from these trouble makers.
