Missouri Governor Jay Nixon disturbed by 'over-militarization' of police in Ferguson

"Missouri Governor Jay Nixon said he was 'thunderstruck' by images he saw of police forces responding to protests in Ferguson after the shooting of teenager Michael Brown as the midnight to 5am curfew enters its second night.

Nixon, speaking to ABC News' Martha Raddatz on This Week on Sunday, said the sight of police in riot gear with armored tanks led to his decision to replace the local police force with highway patrol.

The measure had a calming effect at first, but last night saw one man shot and seven arrested after resisting the curfew order. A picture has emerged of the young man lying wounded on the ground.

'All of us were thunderstruck by the pictures we saw,' Nixon said."

Isn’t Ferguson a city in the state where he’s governor?

What difference does it make? They didn’t use it. They’re saving it for white conservative Christians.

No, I sincerely think that it’s only a matter of time until there is a clash, this time it’ll be blown out of proportion and create an aggravating factor in so many other places who are just dying for a provocation to commit violence.

Welcome to the club wanker. A LOT of people are upset at the militarization and SWAT teams of Federal Government Agencies. Putz.

They’re saving it for white conservative Christians.

With Governor Nixon's enthusiastic approval, of course.

That’s reassuring—wonder if they will be confronted by the looting bigots?

He was so "thunderstruck" that he waited until day six to do something??

Holder must have ripped him one on his inaction.

The Daily Mail had posted a link to a video that had just surfaced of locals talking just after the shooting. You can see the EMT guy check brown for a pulse. You can hear a local in the background saying that Brown had been in the police truck and got out and ran, then doubled back on the cop when he was then shot. Totally disputes the other ‘eye witness’ accounts. The Mail has removed the link.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2727321/Conversation-recorded-bystander-just-moments-Michael-Brown-shooting-casts-doubt-claims-teen-surrendered-Officer-Darren-Wilson.html

About 6. 5 minutes in, the conversation begins. The rest of the video is telling, as it shows the mentality of those at the local level there.

“Breaking: ST. LOUISANS HOLD RALLY In Support of Officer Darren Wilson”

No rioting or looting. Just a plain old peaceful rally in support of Darren.

Yeah, right. The governor is alarmed, and calls in the state troopers to take over from local county police/sheriff.

The state police in missouri have NOOOOO military surplus hardware, right? No, that is NOT correct... they have quite a bit.

So again, political leftie grandstanding.

I don’t necessarily disagree...police militarization is becoming a big problem...but this guy makes my skin crawl.

The governor kept referring to Holder as “General”, not “Attorney General” in the press conference. Very odd I thought. He said General Holder at least twice.
