It is reasonable to note that the position of Islam with regard to making slaves of women captured in war is very nearly identical to that of the Old Testament.
The main difference being that the Israelite captor was supposed to give her a month before having sex with her, by rape or consensually. And that if he doesn’t choose to keep her as a wife/concubine he isn’t supposed to sell her to someone else, but rather free her. There is, unfortunately, no implication that the woman is to be given any choice in the matter.

Obviously, Jews and Christians don’t claim anymore that this kind of behavior is the Will of God. But it should give us some hope that Islam can similarly move beyond such barbaric behavior.
I rather doubt that.

The purpose of this was to discourage the man from taking her into his home in the first place. He was to cohabit with her to be forced to watch her pray to her idols and be disgusted by it.
Also, slavery/concubinage in the Old Testament had so many requirements of the slave owner that it systematically destroyed any interest in slave ownership.
