Politicians from various parties can imagine Germany participating in a mission to control the Rafah checkpoint between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. I personally believe that its our duty, and that we must not turn a blind eye to whats going on, said Reinhold Robbe, the chairman of the German-Israeli community and a former parliamentary commissioner for the armed forces. Germany has a special responsibility because of its history. [ ]
Together with our European partners, we are ready to make a contribution, for example with an EU monitoring mission of the border crossing, (Foreign Affairs minister Frank-Walter) Steinmeier told Bild. We are holding intensive talks with all sides to work out what would be necessary for this, he added.
The German newspaper FAZ quoted a Foreign Ministry source as saying that the Palestinian National Authority would have to be a legitimate partner in the process.
The border to Egypt is currently closed to both goods and persons. If the European proposal is accepted by parties on the ground, EU policemen and customs officers would return to Rafah and control border crossings there.

You know that they say about cops: in Heaven the cops are English.
In the other place, they’re all Germans. Good choice.
And the Afrika korp finally secures Egypt.
Members of the opposition Left party have already signaled their approval, even if the faction has traditionally been critical of German security forces missions abroad. If the EU can help, it should do so, Left foreign policy expert Stefan Liebich said. And he added that he would support Germanys doing its share of the work. The East German Communist Party (now known as Die Linke, or the Left Party) going along with this? They are just too eager.
Philipp Missfelder, of the CDU, suggested that Germany go a step further. A control mission could help disarm radical groups in the Gaza Strip, he said.
unlike many folks with memories, I actually would trust Germany more than most other countries.
but it is, methinks, RIDICULOUS for Israel not to control these border checkpoints herself!!!!!
farming out the work to foreign nations is only asking for complications (at best) and trouble (at worst).
methinks, anyway.
I would THANK Germany for its willingness and then graciously decline ...say we are going to grow up and handle these critical checkpoints ourselves.
The world is less likely to protect Israel than it protected Sudatenland, or Poland, or Ukraine, or Hong Kong, or anywhere else that has relied on “the world” or “international organizations” or “treaties” without a parallel self-defense capacity.....for their protection..
Reagan...peace through strength, trust but verify...
learn from history
The Christian Democrats aren’t radical socialists. They’re relatively conservative. The worst that happens is that they go all Col. Peiper’s “Blowtorch battalion” on Gaza—this isn’t their first rodeo, you know—and they do in fact root-out the Gaza radical groups and give Israel some appreciated assistance...
And maybe usher in the Apocalypse, as well, and that would suit several groups here, from the Revelationists to the preppers. So yeah, wiping out the moslim maniacs, upsexy or triggering the Doomsday Weapon, it’s all good.
Learn from history indeed, and then reconsider that trust.
PS And keep in mind that the Arabs are oddly enthusiastic about all that Nazi BS, so the Germans work their charm and mebbe the Arabs calm down and Israel goes off Defcon one.
And we have yet one more Democrat who brings us “Peace in our time ...!” in the Levantine, and maybe that will satisfy 0’s all-consuming megalomania, and mebbe he’ll stay in Africa and wreck that ‘country’ (Kerry, Pelosi) instead of ours.
Germans don’t have a recent history of withdrawing. Take a closer look.
From Wiki:
Heaven is where the police are British, the lovers French, the mechanics German, the chefs Italian, and it is all organized by the Swiss

Truly, we are each given unique gifts. Ha! Thanks.
We’re Irish... heritage-wise
My favorite is the line in ‘Band of Brothers’ when Buck says to Mullarkey, ‘whaddyou know about cooking? You’re Irish’
I would not be trusting important checkpoints to the Germans, if I were Israel. No sirree. And I don’t think they will, either.

Presuming they take the task seriously, not like the UN in Lebanon who declared on arrival that what Hizbollah brings in isn't their business, they're probably better than most choices. Not sure what's wrong with letting Egypt monitor the border for now. Since the crossing is into Egypt, not Germany.
