Campaigning with Clinton in Lexington, Grimes declares herself the "pro-coal candidate in this race"

In a joint appearance with former President Bill Clinton at the Carrick House in Lexington, Alison Lundergan Grimes declared her support for the coal industry — attacking U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell on the loss of coal jobs under his watch.

Mentioning the line of attack leveled against Grimes that she would work in lock step with President Barack Obama, Clinton said, that McConnell must think Kentucky “has stopped teaching arithmetic.”

His point, Obama will only be in office until the end of 2016, and the position of U.S. Senator is a six-year term, meaning a different president will be in office in two-years.

Here are Clinton’s full remarks:

In her speech, Grimes said McConnell has it wrong on which Democratic president she supports, “I am a Clinton Democrat,” she said.

And she also made overtures for the coal vote in the Eastern part of the state which is down to just more than 11,000 jobs.

“Let me set it straight for you Mitch McConnell — I am the pro-coal candidate in this race,” Grimes said. “In 30-years Mitch McConnell has not saved one coal job and has not created one coal job.”

Grimes said that through working across the aisle in a bipartisan manner she would ensure that coal is restored to “rightful place as a prime American export and make sure it is a part of our national energy strategy.”

Now Grimes is trying to take the offensive against McConnell on the issue of coal, as she sets the stage as his failure — rather than national Democratic regulations that he has been hammering on for most of the campaign.

Typical ‘Rat.

Pretend to be what the voters in the district want now — vote straight party line on everything else later.

The DNC will count heads and if they have enough votes the they’ll let her vote for coal — since it wont make any real difference.

They think Kentuckians are stupid. We will find out in November whether they are right.

They might claim to be pro-coal, but when the EPA shuts down the coal mines and coal powered power plants they won’t do anything about it.

Well let’s see, coal miners can vote for a “Clinton Democrat” who claims to be of all things, and with a straight face (she did say she was Clintonian), “pro-coal,” or they can vote for... Mitch McConnell.

Poor bastards, it’s like being in Romania in 1938 and having to choose between the Nazis and Stalin.

That applies to McConnell as well.

He has not done a DAMNED THING to rein-in the EPA or Obama on anything beyond rhetoric for whichever group he is speaking to before going off to sabotage and destroy Conservatives from behind the scenes.

Coal loses whether Grimes or McConnell take the seat - so it does not matter which of them “wins”. At least with Grimes in the seat we know who the enemy is up front. We will not have to worry about having our throats slit from behind by traitors like McConnell.

That was worth repeating, for it is truth of a purity most will refuse to accept.

Lying and not getting called on it is a true Democrat advantage. I’m not fan of Mitch but this is bull Shiite. Her president has declared war on coal and she would vote any way massa say to vote.

Perhaps they were smart. McConnell probably has a much better shot at beating the grimy woman, and an eGOPer is a lot better than a fellow-traveler for Marxism.

We've been saying and doing that insanity for 40 years.

As someone more prescient than I just said above - it’s like being in Romania in 1938 and having to choose between the Nazis and Stalin.

We're effed any way you choose. No - one is NOT better than the other and the GOP-e is actually WORSE for Conservatism than Marxist enemies we KNOW who are our enemies.

Mitch McConnell's wife sits on the board of a group working to kill the coal industry

It's no more bull-shiite than McConnell campaigning that HE has been stopping Obama's 'war on coal'.

We have to think both short-term and long-term, and decide whether to do it gradually or all at once (if it were possible). Long-term we certainly need to get rid of the worst GOPes and replace them with conservatives. But it doesn’t make sense to throw away a good position to gamble for the optimum. Too many did that re Romney, and gave a tyrant in training another 4 years to destroy our country.

First of all, I REJECT your premise. Conservatism IS NOT IN A GOOD POSITION WITH McCONNELL in office.

He declared war on Conservatives. Vowed to ‘crush’ us wherever he finds us. Promised that we would never win any victories. We have a TRAITOR to Conservativism in McConnell, who works to destroy Conservatives via any means (Thad Conchran anyone?) and grants Obama what he wants while pretending to oppose him.

Conservatism is in a worse position with traitors to our cause like McConnell pretending to be our ‘leader’. We are better off knowing who and where the enemy is than having to watch our backs at being betrayed at every turn.

But if your religion is political expedience then you are exactly one of the major reasons this nation finds itself where it does.

Second, if you think elections matter and are honest after Obama took office in 2009 - you have absolutely no clue what has happened to us and what we are become. You have a fatal case of Normalcy Bias.
