Poll: Amnesty is Toxic for Swing Voters, Top Issue For GOP Voters
The Daily Caller ^ | 7 Aug 2014 | Neil Munro

Only 28 percent of swing-voting independents support President Barack Obama’s immigration policies, while 59 percent oppose those policies, according to a new CBS poll, which also shows that GOP voters think immigration is a more important issue than Obamacare.

That’s a big problem for Obama, as he heads into a critical election season while promising to impose an unprecedented national amnesty for several million illegals, in the face of opposition from Congress.

GOP-leaning supporters already oppose his immigration policy, by 85 percent to 7 seven percent, while Democrats are split, with 33 percent disapproving and 56 approving of his immigration policies, said the poll of Americans, not voters.

Overall, Americans disapprove of his immigration policies by 57 to 31 percent. That’s much worse than his overall rating, which showed 40 percent approval, and 54 percent disapproval, said CBS.

Those declining poll numbers match recent polls, including a July poll by the Associated Press and GfK Public Affairs.

GOP supporters rated immigration as the most important issue facing Americans, ensuring that any action Obama takes is likely to nudge up GOP opposition.

Eighteen percent of Republicans rated immigration as the top issue, slightly above the 14 percent who consider the economy as the top issue, and twice the 9 percent who say Obamacare is the top issue.

GOP politicians — including senatorial candidates Arkansas’ Tom Cotton, New Hampshire’s Scott Brown, and Michigan’s Mary Lynn Land — are already reacting to the shift in GOP priorities by promising support for hawkish pro-American policies.

Even incumbent Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander is trying to win his tough primary with a TV-ad that declared him an opponent of amnesty. In fact, he voted for the Senate’s immigration bill in June 2010, which would have created a multi-stage amnesty for at least 11 million illegals,

However, the public remains skeptical about the GOP’s immigration policy, which is an incoherent mix caused by the clashing preference by most voters for reduced immigration and the preference of GOP-leaning business leaders and donors for a greater inflow of foreign workers and immigrants. So far, GOP leaders have not aligned themselves with voters...........................Blame the RINOs for this.

Bottom line—Registered Republicans and the precious Independents are overwhelmingly against amnesty; so, naturally, the GOP-e is embracing it.

Yep. The RINO GOPE cannot even articulate a different stance than Obama on immigration.

It may not be something by Putin but for sure Obama and his cohorts are trying to come up with an October surprise to avert the likely anti-Democrat landslide in November.

Obama is probably figuring that the media will play up the "Republicans are anti-Hispanic racists" theme to defuse immigration as an issue, but his real hope must be for other issues or pseudo-issues to distract the public's attention away from illegal immigration and his handling of it.

I think amnesty is probably toxic for a huge portion of the Republicans, and probably more Democrats that you would believe — there's a reason the Uniparty-Elite haven't shoved this down our throats.

I've know more than a few illegal aliens who think our immigration policies are far to lenient. Their attitude is basically, 'let me and my family in because we'll work hard, but not all the other jag-offs who messed up the third world sh*thole from which I escaped.'

America has 4% of the world's population and 4% of the world's land area. We cannot afford to be boarding house for the world.

The problem with distractions is that he’s trying to distract us from a prior distraction meant to cover up a still earlier misstep. Each new distraction must be that much larger to have a footprint to cover the prior distraction in order to have the intended effect. Where this leads, nobody knows...

They have to pretend to like it.

The GOPe does not want to win the senate. They like their position. If they win the senate, then they’ll have to either work for us, or work even harder to cover up the fact that they work primarily for K Street.

They despise the conservatives. They don’t know what to do with conservatives, and they do not understand conservatives.

If they win the senate they’ll have to work for conservatives and that is so much worse than what they do now.

And they certainly don’t want to work for senate conservatives.

This is a non-issue for the social engineers/financial elites.

The illegals are like a time released toxin.

They are here. They are not going anywhere. More and more are coming. they are being distributed far and wide.

When the numbers are enough, they will be activated to do the damage they've been brought in to do. (vote away property rights, vote away 2nd Amendment, etc.)

Barring some "radical" dark horse who starts a landslide movement to eject them all from the country--the damage is done. It's now a waiting game.

Lately, I’ve wondered why immigration is such a big deal at this point - there are laws on the books that when effectively applied address most issues - immigration policy isn’t broken, its simply not carried out as written into law.

As suppose it’s just politics at play. Two+ more years is a long time - although if the Senate goes Republican later this year - let the entertainment begin.

They’re only stupid if you consider their goals to be conservative ones. If you consider their goals to be “judge public opinion, don’t rock the boat and hold onto whatever power we have at any cost” then their actions are 100% logical.

“Even incumbent Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander is trying to win his tough primary with a TV-ad that declared him an opponent of amnesty.”

Alexander is claiming he was fighting amnesty when he voted for amnesty.

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less.”

Let’s hope this lying, limp-wristed, modern day Humpty Dumpty goes down in defeat against Joe Carr tonight.

I think most Americans feel the same way I do. Let’s worry about AMERICAN KIDS before we start blowing our money on other people’s kids from Central America. That’s just flat goofy! Send them home to their parents. Let the governments in Central America deal with it. It’s not our problem. Rimshot Joe Biden claims that they are his kids, the governments need to go after him for child support.

Taking a stand against Illegal Immigration would have been a game winner in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012. But, the GOPe chose to ignore the issue becaus it would have given the GOP and unfair advantage over the Democrats...and that just wouildn’t be cricket.
