Impunity reigns for abductions and ill-treatment by pro-Kyiv vigilantes in eastern Ukraine
Amnesty International ^ | 8-6-2014 | Amnesty International

In eastern Ukraine, the battle lines have been shifting for months, after pro-Russian separatists asserted effective control over several key towns across the region.

In a bid to assert its control, the Ukrainian forces have been fighting for months, to reinstate Kyiv’s authority over areas held by pro-Russian separatists.

Law and order do not necessarily follow. In the broader context of a deteriorating security situation in the east, Amnesty International has recently raised its concerns with the Ukrainian authorities about one particularly errant MP who has been “detaining” – in effect abducting – and ill-treating individuals across the region.

He’s called Oleg Lyashko, he is the leader of the pro-Ukrainian Radical Party, Member of the Ukrainian Parliament and former presidential candidate. He travels in the company of muscular armed young men in military fatigues and the ubiquitous camera to record his exploits. His website makes for some grim viewing – Oleg Lyashko is shown entering private and public premises, always accompanied by armed men, and subsequently abducting individuals or forcing them to carry out his instructions.

Oleg Lyashko is supposed to be a lawmaker, but he has taken the law into his own hands. “Glory to Ukraine, death to the occupiers” is his rallying cry.

Though he doesn’t have the right to detain people, he abducts them and abuses them verbally and physically while the camera is rolling. His and other similar websites feature numerous video clips showing what appear to be cases of abduction and violations of the rights to fair trial, liberty and security of the person, and the right not to be subjected to torture and other ill-treatment.

SNIP---------- Amnesty International regards the actions of Oleg Lyashko and his armed associates as a flagrant violation of international legal standards which clearly state that only competent authorities can arrest or detain people. Despite that, to date, Oleg Lyashko is enjoying complete impunity.

Amnesty International has documented the deteriorating security situation in eastern Ukraine, with abuses perpetrated by both sides of the conflict, including incidents of abduction and ill-treatment of captives by both pro-Kyiv forces and separatist armed groups.

Over many years Amnesty International has documented the vulnerability of ordinary people at the hands of corrupt officials and the continuing failure of the Ukrainian authorities to properly investigate human rights violations and bring perpetrators to justice. Given the extraordinary circumstances facing Ukraine today, this ongoing impunity will only further undermine the rule of law.

In a recent letter to the General Prosecutor of Ukraine, Amnesty International called for an immediate investigation into violations committed by Oleg Lyashko and all incidents of abduction and ill-treatment by pro-Kyiv forces.

Amnesty International delegates met with senior representatives of the National Security Council, the Ministry of the Interior and State Security Service at the end of June, and in each of these meetings we were repeatedly told that Oleg Lyashko is not authorized to carry out detentions.

I have often said, (To MUCH admonishment from some pro-Kiev ID's) that the thing keeping the fighting and the killing going in Ukraine has been the actual real-life Nazi's, in both the coup government, and the militias.

The Nazi militias are unanswerable to the Military command and the government, and often act as "NKVD" troops against Ukrainian Soldiers. Lyshenko is going through towns, torturing and killing anyone suspected of being, or helping the rebels, and then posting his exploits on the internet, for all to see.

The "Anti-Terrorist Operation" is run by another ACTUAL NAZI, Secretary of National Security and Defense Andriy Parubiy. The "National Gaurd" militias answer only to him, and again, not the military command.

Parubiy supposedly threatened to resign two weeks ago, and turn the Right-Sector against the government, rather than implement a rumored Cease-fire negotiated by Merkel, Putin, and Poroshenko.

It would seem Amnesty International has got this one right.

I seriously doubt Candyman and most others in Kiev know anything at all about what the private militias are up to until they hear it from the commanders in the field who do check in with Kiev or in the foreign media.

They made a deal with the non-Nazi Nazi devil and they're smart enough to not want to know what's going on in the domain they granted that particular devil.,

Meanwhile, Putin and his sock puppets have invaded Ukrainian territory, annexed it, shoot down aircraft and shell Ukraine from Russia.

And this little tidbit from Amnesty International....

The bulk of the abductions are being perpetrated by armed separatists, with the victims often subjected to stomach-turning beatings and torture. There is also evidence of a smaller number of abuses by pro-Kyiv forces.”

The Private militias have been a BIG part of the problem in Ukraine. Parubiy directs most assets to the Right Sector Militias, while the Government troops barely even get fed.

Even the Oligarchs, like Kolomoisky, have there own private mercenary armies now, killing and attacking the assets of competitors.

Why don’t you ask them?
Is that beyond your clearly demonstrated, very limited thinking ability, as well?

There is no doubt that it is happening on both sides, but Amnesty is pointing out, very clearly, that the actions and lawlessness of Lyashko’s actual Nazi’s militia is above the pale.

It’s like Putin denouncing gays and then having a gay brigade of prag-minded putinistas in love with him. It’s inexplicable how a pro-putin person can post an Amnesty International report that attacks Putin’s proxies for being the worst human rights violators and then expect everyone to feel sorry their worshiped Putin.

....”Oleg Lyashko is shown entering private and public premises, always accompanied by armed men, and subsequently abducting individuals or forcing them to carry out his instructions”.....

Lyashko’s a really bad individual... known for advocating the execution of Ukrainians in Crimea who voted to secede from the country. Uses his power to man handle anyone he determines needing that.

Eventually someone will take him out...he’s a bad seed entire.

“Lyashko’s a really bad individual...
Eventually someone will take him out..”

Rebels thought they may have gotten him on Monday near Donetsk, where he went for a photo-op of him directing the mortaring of a civilian neighborhood, but they only wounded him.

Bezler has personally gone after him a couple of times now, once killing a bunch of his followers, but Lyashko slipped away.

And as amnesty points out the SEPERATISTS ARE FAR BIGGER VIOLATORS. But that doesn’t fit your Pravda, does it.

So, what is your problem then?

That BOTH sides are doing committing crimes??

Or that Amnesty singles out Lyashko as the biggest criminal, also exposing how much of a role the ACTUAL UKRAINIAN NAZI’s are playing in the war, and in the Ukrainian Government, that the pro-coup posters here have repeatedly tried to deny or minimalize through endless accusations and insults??

Frankly, I can understand why the Kiev propagandists try desperately to downplay, or shout down, any news of just how big of a role the Right Sector Nazi’s are playing in all of this.

The imagery is horrible, and no *informed*, thinking person in the West could possibly support NAZI’s.

But the truth is starting to leak out past the propaganda now. I happen to think Amnesty is wrong about a lot of things, but they got this one exactly right.

There’s a handful of extremists, who had little support among the electorate in Ukraine. Meanwhile the REAL fascist/ communists are Purin and his sock puppets.
