According to the Frontpage story, Sawyer changed planes in Togo.

Who did he have contact with there? And what about the people on the flight from Liberia to Togo?

This is bad. Real bad.

They keep saying that it can only be spread by fluids — but the human body is 98% fluids — urine, feces, diarrhea, blood, snot, saliva, sweat — that’s a lot of fluid.

But on Tuesday the state health commissioner, Jide Idris, said Ebola was diagnosed only after Sawyer had been taken to hospital and had direct or indirect contact with at least 70 others. They include airline passengers, airport officials and health workers, and have all been placed under precautionary surveillance. Seven have been quarantined.

Patrick Sawyer arrived in Lagos on July 20, 2014.

Oh yeah. The Nigerians would burn him at the stake if he had survived.

His name will live in infamy there if there are more than a handful of deaths due to him.

Ghana MOH announced they have one self-reporting man under observation with ZEbola symptoms.

Not good. They’d been zebola free prior.

Hopefully malaria or something other than zebola.

This will get interesting. We import a % of our oil from there and have a lot of investment/business with them.

The Front Page Africa article is a must read. It reads like a novel.

They’re already feeling the economic effects on both sides of the borders that are closed. Reduced or curtailed air service.

MSF also reported via BBC item, that there are more remote villages that will not allow them entry

Thanks. Very helpful.

So, a rudimentary time line runs something like this:

7-7-2014 Sawyer's sister dies of Ebola at the Catholic Hospital in Monrovia. Prior to her death, Sawyer is observed with his clothes spattered and marked by his sister's blood as he roams around the hospital and who knows where else.

7-20-2014 Sawyer get on a flight to Lagos even though he appears to be exhibiting moderate to severe symptoms. He changes planes in Lome, Togo. Once in Lagos, he's screened and forbidden to travel to his ultimate destination and hospitalized.

7-20 to 7-24-2014 Sawyer behaves badly in the hospital, refuses to believe he is sick and even urinates on nurses caring for him.

7-25-2014 Sawyer dies and his body is cremated.

8-4-2014 The doctor who treated Sawyer in Nigeria is confirmed with Ebola

8-6-2014 One of the nurses who treated him dies, and 5 other cases of people who came in contact with Sawyer are confirmed.

Lots of big gaps in that time line.

“I am so glad he was caught before he tried to kill American citizens.”

I’m doubly glad, since I understand that he was trying to get home to his family in the U.S.—which is about 15 miles from my home.

“And the Nigerian government says that all these people are quarantined.”

To anyone who believes that:

If it is only spread by fluids, then how did the two Americans get it, while wearing full hazmat suits?

And when they are afflicted with EBOLA and seem to be improving, they usually have a relapse, and die anyway. That was on the news

Then please spread the story that I linked to your neighbors. I can visualize the memorial service that will be in Sept ( I read that somewhere). I can just see all the mourning, and wailing about what a great man this person was, when in fact he was not. Let us not whitewash this incident.

We have become so PC that we cannot say the truth about what really happened.

Sawyer behaved despicably, but it may not have been entirely his fault. Ebola causes capillary ruptures in the brain, causing brain tissue to be deprived of oxygen, and die. Very erratic and uncharacteristic behavior is typical of Ebola victims.

Sawyer's flight to Lagos stopped in Accra, Ghana and Lome, Togo before arriving in Lagos.

1. I don't know the size of the plane or how many passangers come into contact with Sawyer. According to one of kalia’s AllAfrica link, Sawyer attempted to keep away from passengers.

2. According to kalia’s FrontPageAfrica link (amazing story well worth reading a few times), Sawyer was not put into isolation until he was diagonosed with Ebola. They tested him for Malaria and HIV. The results were negative. The hospital then inquired about Ebola and Sawyer was less than helpful.

3. Quotes from FrontPageAfrica article:

The hospital would later report that it resisted immense pressure to let out Sawyer from its hospital against the insistence from some higher-ups and conference organizers that he had a key role to play at the ECOWAS convention in Calabar, the Cross River State capital. In fact, FrontPageAfrica has been informed that officials in Monrovia were in negotiations with ECOWAS to have Sawyer flown back to Liberia.

A text message in possession of FrontPageAfrica from the ECOWAS Ambassador in Liberia, responding to a senior GoL official reads: Your Excellency, the disease control department of the Federal Ministry of Health just contacted me through the hospital now, insisting that Mr. Sawyer be evacuated for now. Pls advise urgently.”

A few days ago there was this 30,000 claim....could it be?

Nigeria’s Special Advisor on Public Health Dr Yewande Adeshina said: “We’re actually looking at contacting over 30,000 people”

There were stories that a African co worker had Ebola, and they caught it from that co worker. Which, if that story is true, the co worker would have had to been asymptomatic at the time. They would have isolated that worker if symptoms were present, which would have avoided contact. I don't think this version is true.

i suspect the issue was in how the decontaminated their bio hazard suits. If you look at videos, they spray a bleach solution on them, with a device that i would use to spray weed killer in my yard. Since I don't get all the weeds in my yard in one spray, it would not be surprising to me that they did not kill all the virus. Then the doctor removes the suit, touching the unkilled virus. The second American, Nancy, was decontaminating the suits with the spray, probably did not completely decontaminate it, touched the suit and got Ebola.
I think the only really good way to decontaminate is to stand under a shower , then you would get complete coverage.
