‘My Life After Manson’
New York Times ^ | August 04, 2014 | Olivia Klaus

Posted on 08/04/2014 9:01:57 PM PDT by Second Amendment First

I vividly remember entering the California Institution for Women for the first time in 2001. As the prison guard slammed the gate behind me, I wondered if I had made the right decision to become a volunteer for an inmate support group. But my nerves were eased by a woman who introduced herself as “Krenny.” Welcoming me into the group, she seemed quiet and insecure — yet also exuded an inner strength. I had no idea how she got here and didn’t ask.

It was only several years later, while documenting the support group for a documentary film, “Sin by Silence,” that I learned Krenny’s full name: Patricia Krenwinkel. I was astounded. She was one of the infamous Charles Manson followers, convicted of seven murders. She eventually approached me to go on camera with her story.

In this Op-Doc video, Ms. Krenwinkel provides her first on-camera interview since 1994, reflecting on her life before and after Manson. This week is the 45th anniversary of her crimes.

*

Ms. Krenwinkel is now the longest serving woman in the California prison system. She says she takes full responsibility for her actions — finally, she says, she is a woman she can accept. But is society ready to accept her back? She is next eligible for parole in 2018.

The fact that Dohrn slut is still breathing fresh air tells everyone there is no justice on Earth.

"The fact that Dohrn slut is still breathing fresh air tells everyone there is no justice on Earth."

The fact that she is a hero to the left tells everyone there is an epidemic of mental disease infecting liberals.

Agreed, They should have been executed, but since that didn’t happen, let them rot in prison.

I agree with you. Even before the age of reason when I was a little boy I had more self-control than this monster. Let God deal with her. Keep her in prison.

All of them were given the death penalty in 72’ and with good reason. Justice was served in that verdict. Because the states law was changed to life sentences doesn’t change the verdict nor the horrific manner in which she murdered these people over a two day period.

I’ve listened to her throughout the years in her parol hearings...time and again she’s denied...also with good reason. She’s saying all the right words but her body language, facial expressions etc. do not mirror, nor are they consistent, with what she is saying.

She’s had “a life” in prison many do not even outside prison. She got her BA.., she plays volleyball and other activities, she eats well and has a roof over her head, She’s involved in many social and self-help groups within the prison......she has a life. Something & others do not.

She is the one who wrote all over the walls in blood. She is the one who stabbed Mr. La Bianco and then pinged the handle to watch him squirm. She is the one who chased down Abigal Folgers and stabbed her repeatedly.

In all her parole hearings...some lasting up to four hours, it was determined she failed to understand why people still want her behind bars.....

Further she has known since her conviction that the only possible way ever for release would be to have a perfect record within jail....thus she has maintained that record in order to qualify herself for release.

She needs to remain in prison for the rest of her life regardless of how she sees herself or not. If she was remorseful as she claims then she would have accepted her “life” there as more than a gift. She hasn’t.

This should not be the case. She should have been reemoved from the California penal population 34 years ago.

It steams me up seeing Krenwinkle and Van Houton and Watson beg for freedom. They blame everyone but themselves and it’s all an act. Most hippies were tripping on acid, but didn’t run around murdering someone on a regular basis. Van Houton might have gotten out in a while if she has testified against Manson and fessed up. She stabbed a dead body, didn’t murder, but desecration of a corpse is a felony. As for Krenwinkle, she was skipping and singing on a regular basis. Sickening.

They are in the video, but that doesn't and shouldn't change anything.

I don't know where you got the impression that I thought she should be paroled. I just said she seems to be penitent, which matters before G_d, not the law.

My point is she is lying....her body language in her hearings evidences this time and again...as does this ‘canned’ interview where she’s reading what she’s saying.

In her mind it isn’t about what she has done as much as how and what she has to do to attain her release....which includes using all the known tactics and behaviors one can find that works...she expresses pretty much all these in her statements.

I do not believe she is penitent....rather she simply wants her freedom and believes she has earned it. Her job is to convince society and the parole members. So far they aren’t buying it and shouldn’t.

She made her own bed...she was a looser at 15 and thereafter....doing drugs, hanging out with druggies, didn’t finish school, she made the life she lead and had plenty of moments and opportunities to choose otherwise.

I get that. As to her body language in the interview, I don't.

I do not believe she is penitent....rather she simply wants her freedom and believes she has earned it.

I understood that. To me the question insofar as her future is concerned should be immaterial.
