MOBILE, Alabama – One minute the son of a prominent Alabama judge was rolling a marijuana cigar on his couch; the next he was shotgunning the mother of his infant child to death, a detective testified on Wednesday.

With a packed courtroom listening intently, Prichard Police Cpl. Robert Martin chronicled an eye-witness account of how Richardson Johnson Kennedy, 22, allegedly killed Tylandria Rivers over prescription pain medicine.

According to Martin, the only other person at the Jarrett Road home near Prichard Municipal Park on July 6 told police the defendant was "rolling a blunt" in the living room of the home 21-year-old Rivers shared with Kennedy that morning around 10.

The witness, identified only as "Prince," told the detective that when Rivers came in, the defendant "immediately jumped up confronted her about some pills," he said. Martin added that Rivers had just been released from the hospital, having just recovered from giving birth to the couple's daughter, and had an unfilled prescription to codeine pain pills.

An argument between the two ensued, which moved to the bedroom, and a few moments later, Prince "heard a pop," Martin said. When he went to the bedroom to see what happened, Kennedy, told Prince, "Man, I just shot my baby mama," he said.

“Richardson Johnson Kennedy, 22”

Maybe he was mad that he didn’t have a real first name.

A “marijuana cigar”? Is that what Cheech and Chong call a “bomber”? One of those “foot longs”?

Rollin' a blunt, and bustin' a cap at baby-mama.

Sounds like we have a winner for the 2014 Keepin' it Real award.

My first thought too (after sadness over the senseless killing). Turns out the term “blunt” applies to cigarillo type/size objects. Smells (a little bit) like a cigar, but isn’t by any stretch “cigar sized.”

Codeine pain pills?

Tylandria should have stuck to Tylenol and she'd be alive today.

“Man, I just shot my baby mama,”

It seems women with names like Tylandria tend to become baby mamas for violent thugs and get shot in drug disputes.

Don't know about the defendant, but Mobile County Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Wright is clearly not guilty!

Since she was PRESCRIBED Tylenol with codeine I suspect she just had a cesarean section delivery, but even an episiotomy is quite painful. If a new mother is not planning to nurse certainly a narcotic pain prescription is warranted under this circumstance, and quite necessary with the C-section. If you ever have to undergo abdominopelvic surgery, I think you will find that Tylenol alone will not provide you with adequate postop pain relief; it is awful that poor young mother was murdered for her pain pill prescription which she NEEDED!

Bad hair dye, tough jaw, the weird thing with the eyebrows, and those look like some big shoulders.

I love the look on the newsgal’s face, though.

The article doesn’t say where the baby is. Still safely in the hospital, I hope.

Can’t have happened, the NY Times, bird-cage liner of record, has officially stated that marijuana is safer than alcohol and does not lead to harder drugs. Obvious mis-information and as it violates the NYT conclusions, must be stricken from memory!

“I just don’t get it.”
A civilized, educated person like yourself will never understand the brute animals in society.Their thinking is so foreign that they might as well be from another planet.

Too bad that the pill head’s baby mama wasn’t carrying her own gun. He needs killing , and we trust an AL jury will take care of that.
