Israel’s Endgame in Gaza
Caroline Gllick ^ | 8/1/2014 | Caroline Glick

The fighting is still raging in Gaza. Each day the IDF destroys more and more tunnels and other terrorist infrastructure. Each day, we discover new facets of Hamas’s depravity.

The three soldiers from the Maglan commando unit who were killed on Tuesday in the southern Gaza Strip, were buried in the rubble of a UN clinic. They entered the building to seal a terror tunnel whose entry shaft was located inside the clinic.

A Hamas terrorist was inside the tunnel waiting for them. He detonated the building. Works out that Hamas had booby-trapped the structure, hiding 12 barrels with 80 kg. of explosives each, in a wall.

In a press briefing following the bombing, the commander of the Gaza Division reported that to date Hamas has used more than a thousand improvised explosive devices. Its bombs have destroyed thousands of buildings in the Gaza Strip.

OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. Sami Turgeman told reporters that with the amount of concrete Hamas used in its tunnels it could have built 100 kindergartens, two hospitals, 20 schools and 20 clinics.

I think Bibi recognizes the serious environment they find themselves in and he means to put an end to this, setting them back years.

I’m hoping he goes all “Jeptha, judge of Israel, who subdued the Ephraimites”, and be done with it, making a very serious point, while demonstrating to the world Israel wishes to live peacefully next to all but, will explode in defense of her liberty, land and life.

Let’s give a war a chance for once over there. Unleash the Israeli army. Let them completely liquidate HAMAS.

Um, against these guys, shouldn’t you be using robots and drones for that sort of stuff?

Islam does not build. It only destroys.

It can feed off the body of a civilization it has conquered for about 2 generations, and then that civilization sinks and disappears and we are left with howling mobs of brutal, ignorant, non-working men waving their fannies in the air for insane, power-crazed preachers of an insane cult.

A “UN Clinic” with a tunnel shaft in it...maybe some enterprising young reporter should make an inquiry about this, instead of bashing Israel.

Eaxactly.

Dear United Nations,

Could you please pass this letter to those people under your management who were running that clinic in the Gaza Strip?

Dear Unitied Nations Clinic People,

Did you know the building you worked in had a Hamas tunnel shaft in it? Did you know they had 12 barrels, each with 80 Kilograms of explosives in them, hidden in the walls of your office?

If the answer is no, you didn’t know, then let me ask how are you able to walk and breathe at the time, you ignorant dolts? If the answer is yes, then how could you not report this to your senior leadership? Hoe could you go there to work everyday? Don’t you realize the DANGER you allowed yourself and your patients to be under? Do you realize that you are responsible for getting people, both Arabs and Israelis, killed?

Sincerely,
Alas Babylon

PS FU UN!

Persia is a text book case of this. Before Islam, it has one of the greatest civilizations in the world. After that, it was just another sandbox country.

Granted, it did progress into modernity for a season under the Shah and other rulers, but only because they practiced a softer modernized version of Islam.

Exactly. All of these countries (including Afghanistan, which was not really a state at the time, but was doing just fine on the Silk Road and was full of commerce and art and other good things) lasted just long enough for the dead hand of Islam to destroy them with its hatred of material creation and its fatalistic belief that its god is some hideous monster that hates humanity and is ready to destroy it at any moment.

For the conquered, the only solution was to abandon their own civilization and put themselves under the profoundly anti-human grip of sharia, which was “law” invented by Mohammed to subjugate peoples and consolidate his military conquests. This usually took about 2 generations, or perhaps 3 in a very resistant group, to fully kill a society.

In this case it would not have mattered. To get any kind of robot into the tunnel entrance (have you seen how these entrances are built?) the good guys have to be inside the building already.

(The tunnel access in the mosque was specially cute).

PLUS nearly a thousand (1000) Kg of explosives would bring down the entire block, and anyone within or anywhere near that building.

Clearly not an accident.

The Hamas Plan to demand being allowed to do whatever they wish, or they will arrange to kill all of their own population seems to be working.

IMO, the only solution is to reoccupy and denazify, however many years it takes. Egypt doesn’t want it, and leaving be just lets the problem get worse.

Caroline Glick recommends an extended siege of Gaza. (Perhaps Hamas can be undermined through an orchestrated coup during a siege)

A problem with the siege strategy is the humanitarian crisis of more than a million civilians under such conditions. Public opinion and support will inevitably erode.

Another problem is the extended time frame needed to maintain operations - reservists have to go back to work eventually, and budgets will have to be increased. Significant costs, but not necessarily showstoppers.

So a siege which takes too long risks strategic failure.

She seems to propose this strategy to avoid unacceptable costs from the Obama Administration, if Israel deposes Hamas, but does not specify what they would be. Perhaps this is informed by credible unacceptable retaliation, but it may be psyops.

The Obama admin may be bluffing and exaggerating (most of their foreign policy has wilted under pressure - they are on thin ice domestically and with Congress). Also, the Israelis (like Republicans) may have grown too timid of criticism, after so many years of verbal abuse.

Ms. Glick uses the term attrition. If the attrition is aggressive from air and artillery, keeping the troops out of harms way in a cordon might be a wise and effective approach for some time, as long as it enough to maintain the initiative from Hamas. We have seen what happens when you let up on Hamas, even for a few hours. They have many attacks that they have been preparing, which they will launch whenever they regain their footing.

Bottom Line: Until Hamas is exhausted, it must be kept reeling. This risks their collapse at any time. That risk simply must be accepted.

Maintaining the initiative will require continued aggressive killing of Hamas leadership and capabilities, with surprising changes in tactics and tempo to keep them reacting. They are aggressive and will require continued hard blows to suppress their offense.

I propose taphophobia (fear of being buried alive) as a useful potential result from this operation. Dissuade future tunneling.

Actually, no matter what happens, if Hamas survives, it will continue to metastisize to destroy Israel.

Anything short of destroying Hamas is a false victory.

It has to be done, and things could, and probably will be, worse in the future.

Seize the day. Fortune Favors the bold.
