The IDF believes there is a high likelihood that a soldier was kidnapped this morning in Rafah (Rafiach) at 9:30am.

Hamas terrorists attacked IDF troops this morning during the cease fire, a battle ensued, at it is believed they managed to kidnap a soldier.

They have made numerous attempts, since the war began, to abduct soldiers, and this may have been their goal all along.

The soldier kidnapped this morning in Rafah is Hadar Goldin, an officer in the Givati Brigade, the IDF says.

The attack, which included a suicide bombing and involved enemy gunmen emerging from a tunnel shaft, came at 9:30 in the morning, during the early hours of what was to have been a 72-hour truce, and may signal a significant escalation in the 25-day-old war with Gaza.

A suicide bomber and other gunmen engaged the IDF forces as they sought to decommission a tunnel. Shortly after the combined attack, it became clear to Israeli forces in the area that a soldier was missing.

A senior Israeli official slammed Hamas for again violating a humanitarian truce.

“It’s clear that Hamas has violated yet again another humanitarian ceasefire,” the official told The Times of Israel. “They broke commitments given to the United Nations secretary-general and to the United States secretary of state. This is obviously a flagrant violation of the ceasefire arrangement, which specifically allowed Israeli troops to remain in place and allowed us to continue to work on tunnels.”

Two IDF soldiers killed in Rafah attack

The IDF announces that two soldiers were killed in the kidnapping of 2nd-Lt. Hadar Goldin in Rafah this morning.

The identities of the soldiers have not yet been announced, but their families have been notified.

Their deaths raise the IDF’s toll to 63 since the start of Operation Protective Edge.

Okay - so 3 civilian deaths

My understanding is that at least two of those civilians killed were bringing food to IDF soldiers at the front lines. A dangerous venture.

As long as there are Muzzies in Gaza they are going to be committed to the destruction of Israel.

It’s time to use the old school rules of war in order to win this one.

Maybe I have a narrow viewpoint and just can't see the "progressive" definition of reality. But it seems to me that if you are taking prisoners then that is an act of war. If you are fighting soldiers in order to take prisoners, that is an act of war. If you're committing acts of war, um, you are not in a state of cease fire.

Hamas doesn't believe in cease fires - all they see are operational pauses to rearm, resupply, and gather more intel. Then it is back at it the moment they think they have a tactical advantage. In short, Hamas cannot be trusted at all, zero, zip, nada. Hmm, kind of reminds me of someone we have closer to home here...

I wonder if Obama and Kerry watched the kidnapping going down in the situation room.

Hamas tweet claims they have killed 131 IDF forces:

“Since the ground war, Al-Qassam Brigades killed 131 Israeli soldiers & officers in direct clashes (didn’t include killings in bombardments)
5:18 AM - 1 Aug 2014”

It is a valid statement. Hamas initiated a battle during a ceasefire. What was the IDF to do, sit on their thumbs?

Sheesh! What is it with all the grammar police lately? Doesn’t anyone have anything meaningful to comment about?

Imagine the outrage if someone in the media compared the Palestinians to the KKK. A group dedicated to taking back “their” land from a minority group and they hide behind masks and commit terroristic attacks to intimidate others because they don’t have the power to attack directly.

Well - unlike the divided US - at least Israel stands united for the most part...sacrifice is a term few understand here in the US...God be with them!

Somehow, I think, the US News would re-write the story that would place the KKK as the victim and stereotyped anyone who disagreed with them...if not out right destroy their public reputation...the news in the US is as much to blame for this chaos as are the leadership - or lack of leadership of the US....sad times we are in...

Will the White House condemn them?

Will the Jew hater in charge stifle his gut long enough to express a decent appropriate emotion? The cruel part of me wants to see the look on the face of his Jewish supporters when they realize they supported someone dedicated to their genocide.

Israel gave Hamas a 1 hour deadline (until 10am EDT) to return the captured soldier.

The deadline has passed.
