Jeff Sessions Holds the Line, Blocks Democrat Immigration Travesty
Powerline ^ | July 31, 2014 | John Hinderaker

There was high drama on the Senate floor this evening. Harry Reid brought on for a vote President Obama’s $2.7 billion proposal to support illegals from Central America who are flooding across the border, in the form of a supplemental budget request. An extremely knowledgeable Senate insider offers this blow-by-blow account of what happened:

It required 60 votes to waive that point of order. After failing to table the filled amendment tree, Sessions raised the point of order. Appropriations Committee Chair Mikulski, author of the legislation, moved to waive all points of order on the bill. Dems failed to waive the point of order, by a vote of 50 yeas and 44 nays, with Manchin again voting with Republicans.

So the Senate immigration supplemental appropriations bill is dead.

This is very good news, although of course it would be better news if Congress would stand up to the president’s lawless and unconstitutional determination to repeal federal statutes by executive decree. For now, though, let’s be grateful, once again, to Senator Jeff Sessions, who stood in the gap and, this time, prevailed.

It’s nice to know somebody has figured out that we’re fighting for our country here. We don’t need a bunch of tattooed, snotty nosed morons who get “offended” and become hysterical when they see a U.S. flag.

‘Cruz was the man of the hour though’...wouldn’t not have happened without him working behind the scenes...Jeff just did the mouth work....he jumped on board with Cruz as we all know.

The Birmingham News hardly ever covers Sen. Sessions unless it’s in a negative manner.

They are too busy writing articles about cupcakes, puppies and homosexual marriage/interest articles.

Another once solid newspaper dead.

Phone calls must be paying off.

I called my two sinators yesterday and told them amnesty was a deal breaker for me.

Called my rep and told him the same thing.

The only acceptable border bill contains two things:

1) Deportation 2) Secure the border

Other way around. Sessions has been the leader on immigration since the defeat of the 2006 Hegel-Martinez amnesty bill.

His Becoming the Party of Work--How the GOP can help struggling Americans, and itself. should be required reading for all conservatives.

Someone with a backbone. Illegals are treated like first class citizens, and what do we get? $4 gas, a pathetic economy, cancelled insurance policies, a trampled Constitution and 7.5 trillion worth of debt under an administration that refuses to be held accountable....for anything. Even better, Republicans are trying to pass a border bill that does nothing to address border security or validate the current laws our government is brazenly violating. When is enough, enough? Obama and his fellow radical leftists should have been charged long ago. I’m sick of the passive response from Congressional leaders. Hell, I’m ready for the military to arrest him.
