After two days of working in the stifling heat, law enforcement officers and inmates have removed more than 100,000 pot plants from 29 fields in Polk County. The estimated street value of the marijuana is $175 million, one of the biggest busts in Texas history. They also found some cell phones in the fields that they’re hoping will lead to the ringleader of the massive operation.

In the past the cops and courts have said one plant will produce one pound of salable pot. 100k lb.s of pot @ $175 million is $175 per pound. That’s some danged cheap pot.
A million pounds of pot at $175 million is $175/lb. 100k lbs at $175 million is $1750/lb.

I'll have to take you word on that. I always found these kinds of estimates to be amusing. About half of the plants are going to be male, so they're pretty well worthless for pot. Then there's the assumption that all the plants will survive to harvest and produce good yields. If a farmer lost a corn crop in the middle of summer and filed an insurance claim estimating it's value by the same method it would be considered fraud.

Your numbers are all jacked up....BTW it’s always cheaper at wholesale prices. Gets expensive after it passes through a dozen or so buyers at the store/consumer levels.

Usually these reports have a vastly overestimated price based on the amount seized which always makes me wonder if some of the dope isn’t making it to the impound locker.

There is a huge variation in quality depends on the type of seeds they used. If it is the brown frown, Mexican dirt, crap, it can be as cheap as 50 an ounce. If they planted a modern hybrid strain, it could go for as much as 500 or more an ounce. If the seeds were feminized, males are very rare. That is a lot of seeds for it to be high grade.
Hemp will grow nearly year round in this area and can withstand the frost. We’ve had a ton of rain so it likely took little care. The growers are idiots. There’s no way your going to get away with that many plants outdoors. It will be interesting to see who gets busted and if this cartel or a bunch of idiot stoners.
