Israel must be permitted to crush Hamas
The Washington Post ^ | July 24, 2014 | Michael Oren

Posted on 07/25/2014 10:53:57 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary of State John Kerry and the foreign ministers of Great Britain and France all are rushing to achieve a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. Their motive — to end civilian suffering and restore stability to the area — is noble. The images of the wounded and dead resulting from the conflict are indeed agonizing. However, these senior statesmen can be most helpful now by doing nothing. To preserve the values they cherish and to send an unequivocal message to terrorist organizations and their state sponsors everywhere, Israel must be permitted to crush Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

This is the lesson of previous rounds of fighting between the Israeli Defense Forces and terrorist strongholds. In Lebanon in 2006 and in Gaza in 2008 and again in 2012, Israel responded to rocket attacks on its cities with fierce counteroffensives. Fighting against a deeply dug-in enemy that both blended in with the local population and used it as a shield, Israel’s best efforts to avoid civilian casualties invariably proved limited. Incensed world opinion generated immense pressure on governments to convene the U.N. Security Council and empower human rights organizations to censure Israel and stop the carnage. These measures succeeded where the terrorists’ rockets failed. Israel was compelled to back down.

And the terrorists, though badly mauled, won....

Thanks for posting the article.

The only reason these people want a cease fire is to allow the Hamas to re-arm and get ready for the next fight. Everyone knows Hamas will never accept Israel, and that no Arab country other than Egypt and Jordan will ever recognize Israel as a nation. My honest opinion? Everyone is content with this war going on and on and on

Good article. But Israel just needs to do it. Not ask for permission.

Israel doesn’t need nor should they seek anyone’s permission to defend themselves. Crush Hamas out of existence, you’ll be doing the world a favor.

Why does Israel need anyone’s “permission” to protect its citizens from a corrupt world that hates them? Please explain.

100 % correct! Hamas MUST be crushed, limited war does nothing except move the next battle a little into the future. If war is required, than make sure there will be such terror that hamas will never again think about attacking Israel.War is not a game to be played with. It is the last option, and includes the TOTAL destruction of the enemy. Limited war just guarantees another war in the near future.
Israel needs to hurt hamas so badly that it will be another 1000 years before they think about another war.

LOL, right, and who’s gonna stop em? UN sending troops in? What a hoot. The UN is just as worthless as Odumbo’s administration.

“their motive ... is noble”

no, Kerry and his UN buddies are not noble, merely imbecilic....

there is nothing “noble” about trying to preserve Hamas as a fighting terrorist force, which is what Kerry and pals are trying to do, in effect

they may imagine that their effort is on behalf of civilians, but people like Kerry have done this crap and preserved Hamas (and Hezbollah, PLO/PA etc.) over and over and over again...

Israel must finally crush and exterminate Hamas, and nutjobs like Kerry and Obama should just stfu and stay out of the way.

no matter what foolish peacenik diplomatic pressures are exerted, Israel must finish the job this time!

How many times does Israel have to go through the charade and let the terrorists survive to re-build and attack again???

all the international naive b.s. about “peace process” and “cease-fire” can just go straight to Hades where it belongs.

Israel has been too reticent and restrained in its own defense for 66 years!!

Every time Israel is attacked they respond just enough to secure themselves for a few more years, or at best a decade or two.

The Jew-hating genocidal Arab/Muslim fanatics merely re-arm and prepare for the next go-round.

Israel must at least demolish Hamas in Gaza this time. They really ought to take care of the “West Bank” and southern Lebanon too, but with all the international pressure b.s. we’ll be lucky if Netanyahu takes care of Gaza well enough.

btw, Hezbollah is probably weakened from their losses in Syria I would guess, this might be the opportune time to take them out after dealing with Hamas!

"no, Kerry and his UN buddies are not noble, merely imbecilic...."

You're right. In fact what they're doing is making sure there will be even more civilian casualties.

To preserve the values they cherish and to send an unequivocal message to terrorist organizations and their state sponsors everywhere, Israel must be permitted to crush Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

It's not about sending a message, except for the message that cannot be missed - lots of dead terrorists and no more weapons or tunnels. Islamic terrorists do not listen to messages.

Yes, crush Hamas, first and foremost. But almost as important, Israel should demonstrate as emphatically as possibe that it doesn’t need or want anyone’s permission.

Crush? Yes.
Then destroy.
Then burn to ash.
Then pee on the ashes. Just for good measure.
